Believing that the best service can
be secured through its employees ex
erting every effort to assist the patrons
of the Southern Express Company,
Second Vice-President, E. M. Wil
liams, in charge of traffic, has issued
to the four thousand agents of the
Southern Express Company a "Gen
eral Reminder" on the holiday busi
ness for 1914, in which he urges upon
the thousands of employees of the
company the importance of making the
Christmas shipping season a success
through their personal efforts.
One of these ‘‘Reminders’’ has been
received by J, R. Wofford, local agent
for the Southern Expess Company in
this city, who has posted it in a con
spicuous place in the receiving office
of the company. There it will serve
as a reminder to the employees, and
at the same time will show the pat
rons the true spirit of a company, as
expressed by an official, with refer
ence to handling the great rush of
business incident to the Christmas
season.
“FIRST AID” CAR IS HERE;
15 FREE DAILY LECTURES
Three Lectures a Day, Without
Charge, on Methods of “First
Aid”---Car Stationed at the
Union Depot.
Car No. 3 of the American Red Cross
First Aid society arrived in Augusta
Thanksgiving day and will remain un
til December 2. It is parked near the
Union station, on the other side of
Campbell street.
Three lectures each day will be de
livered by Mr. M. J. Shields, the phy
sician In charge, at 10:30 a. m„ 4 o.
m. and 8 p, m., on Friday, Saturday,
Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
Additional lectures will be deliv
ered by Dr. Shields at the C. and W.
C. shops on Monday at 12:30 and at
the Georgia railroad shops on Tues
day at 12:30.
The "first «ld“ department of the
American Red Cross is carrying on this
excellent work of sending their cars
through the country for the purpose
of educating individual employes of
railroads, street car companies, shops
and oilier industrial plants In modern
methods of "first aid," and to encour
age the organization of regular "first
aid” corps in the cities visited.
All officials in charge of such in
stitutions as the above mentioned and
their employes, all physicians, hospital
attendants, school teachers, students,
as well as the public in general, are
invited to attend Mr. Shields' lectures,
which are without charge of any kind.
The lectures and demonstrations ara
of the greatest interest and a largo
attendance Is expected at the lectures
from the people of Augusta. A good
reception will encourage the Red Cross
to send other cars to Augusta.
