Wright, president of the civil service commission, was reached over 'phone and his permission to go to North Augusta, S. C., was secured. The fire men from headquarters, in their motovs, raced to the scene only to find the roof of the house a most one entire blaze. CUT COUNCIL TO CONSIDER NEAR BEER LICENSES Will Meet at 8 O’clock Tonight. Advocates of $750 License Withdraw in Favor of SI,OOO License. City council will meet at 8 o’clock tonight to consider the question of near-beer licenses for 1915. The ordi nance providing for the license to re main at SI,OOO, the same as this year, will go to its third reading and bo acted upon. It is understood that tho ordinnnoe will pass by a large major ity. The advocates of the $750 license have withdrawn in favor of the SI,OOO license. A committee of gentlemen selected by the chairman of the Cotton Ex change law enforcement meeting will appear before council and urge a SSOO license, with the understanding that no whiskey be sold, and limit the saloons to fltty. itfTSSOURI TEAM FACES LOCALS TUESDAY NIGHT \ Fastest Basketball Contest of Season Looked For Soon in Augusta Y. M. C. A. Gym nasium A contract has been made by the Y. M. C. A. to play on the gymnasium floor of the Y. M. C. A. next Tuesday at 8:30 o’clock, the team from the American School of Osteopathy, Kirksville, Mo. —a basketball team that lias the reputation of being one of the fastest that ever hit this town, and that’s saying a whole lot, for some mighty strong teams have visited the city during the last few years. An Augusta boy who has been at tending school at the place this team hails from recently arrived in the city for the Xmas holidays and reports that this team from Kirksville is a hustler, and the locals will have to exert their best efforts if they expect to remain undefeated after the 22nd. The accommodation for a large crowd is being made and it will not be su*h a rush for good seats as it was be fore.
