AT THE STRAND “The Rose of the Rancho.” ‘‘The Rose of the Rancho,” the first production of the Jesse L. Lasky Fea ture Play Company, of a scries of a series of Belasco successes, the exclu sive rights of which this company con trols, is being seen at the Strand to day only. "The Rose of the Rancho” was pro duced in lower California by Cecil B. IteMille under the direct supervision of the wizard dramatist, David Belasco and the artistic master, Jesse L. Lasky, and Is typical of the period In which the action of the piece occurs. Eighteen Mexican Vaoqueros, a largo equipment of Spanish accoutrements and a number of Spanish girls were Imported from Mexico for the minor roles In the "Rose of the Rancho." David Belasco, Jesse L. Lasky and Cecil B. De Mille collaborated on the scenario. "The Rose of the Rancho” Is credit ed by authorities with being the most artistic and thoroughly faithful motion production yet created in this country. Merry Christmas For a one-day’s program, The Strand lias a Jim-dandy tomorrow. It's a regular Santa Claus treat. First. Klaw and Erlanger present “Liberty Belles.” a farce comedy in three parts; second, “The Other Kid's Sister" Is another compdy, and third and last, the Strand War Series, No. 9' “The Liberty Belles" opens up In the following manner: Margery Pennyfeather and .Tack Everleigh, Dorothy Ketchani and Phil Fuller, are sweethearts and chums. Margery's father, Jasper Pennyfeather, Is trying to build a hydro-aeroplane. Captain Hiram Ketcham, Dorothy's father, is preparing to sntl to a desert island in search of a treasure. The Penny feathers and Ketchams are neighbors and the fathers object to the boys. Jack and Phil. Jack and Phil are preparing to leave for college, lint before going plot to gel the girls Into a boarding school in the neighborhood of the college. The boys write let ters to Mrs. Hproiitts. the principal of I the school for prices and particulars, j to which they sign the names of Jas per Pennyfeather and Captain Ketch am. Upon receiving the Information tlm | fathers decide to send their daughters to Mrs. Sproutt’s school. The boys, | upon learning that the girls have | reached the school, make an effort to I see them. They are discovered un der the window calling the girls and arc chased away. The fathers of the I clrls have both fallen In love with Mrs. i Sprontts and are striving hard to win , her affections. The girls of the school arc taken by the swimming teacher to | the beach, but Margery and Dorothy w* re loft behind. The boys secure bathing suits and with the two girls go lo another part of the beach. Mrs. Sprout! i discovers the happv quartet and proceeds to drag the girls from the j water. They are taken back to school |and punished by being deprived of their dinner. The girls throw a note out o. the window to the boys telling them they are hungry. The boys are quick to respond and soon return with re freshments which they hoist up to the window. Saturday, "When Rome Ruled" will be shown In five parts. U. S. TENNESSEE ARRIVES.
