Tuesday, January 19th, was observed in Augusta as the 108th anniversary of the birth of General Robert E. Lee, beloved chieftain of the Confederacy. In spite of the fact that I had already tried many preparations without benefit, and my hair was thin and fall ing out very fast, I decided to give your formula a trial. Accordingly I got my druggist to put up 6 ounces of Bay Rum, 2 ounces Lavona de Composee, and dram of Menthol Crystals, and applied it regularly every morning and night, rub bing carefully Into the scalp with the finger tips. Much to my delight and astonishment the intolerable itching ceased with the first application, the dandruff disappeared, the falling out of the hair stopped completely, and by the time I had used four bottles I had a finer, longer, and more luxuriant growth of hair than I had ever had before. I have since recommended this formula to many of my friends with equally won derful results. I understand that this formula can be prepared by all drug gists, and I strongly advise all your readers -who have not yet given It a trial to do so immediately.T. H. P. GRAY HAIR? Look Old? THE AUGUSTA HERALD Guarantees Advertisers Double the City Circulation of Any Other Augusta Newspaper If you have an article or a service of value to humanit.y and yon desire to sell it, you must make that fact known. You must make plain just WHY it should be bought, and you must also tell WHERE and HOW it may be bought. In this way Demand is created and Sales are made. The best known present-day method of Creating Demand is by Advertising. The reasons are so obvious that they need little discus sion. To most quickly succeed, certain established psycological prin ciples must be followed. The ad must be so arranged and set that it attracts the attention of the reader through unconscious artistic ap peal. Attention is held if the copy is simple, clear, direct and convinc ing. In this way new and sympathetic acquaintances are made; and this method, persisted in, converts an acquaintance into a customer, confident even in his first purchase and proud of you and of his con nection with you. The experienced and successful advertising plan and copy counsellor knows these things better than anyone else. One of the most prominent of them said recently: "I can always tell when I see an advertisement with mourning borders and garish type that the person who was responsible for it was inexperienced, unfamiliar with the are, or that he lacked the inherent qualities which entitle a man to deal successfully with his fellow man.” Assuming that what you have to sell has merit and value; that your ad is properly arranged and set; that the copy is simple, clear, direct and convincing—you still need the advice and assistance of the advertising agency to place you at the least cost and least waste before your particular audience, always remembering that THE DAILY NEWSPAPER IS THE MOST INTIMATE AND THE BEST MEDIUM in which humanity is interested. The foregoing accomplished, you must remember that Constant Reptition Makes Advertising Pay You must iterate and reiterate until you and your wares are household words. Success! Success!! My dear sir, you could not keep it away from you with a 42 centimeter gun. Advertising in the Herald Gets Results pices of the Daughters of the Confede racy. The address of the occasion was made by Mr. Louts L. Battey and it was his first public address in Augus ta since being admitted to the bar. Mr. Battey made a very able and eloquent address and was listened to with the closest attention by a large number of people. Rev. S. 1,. McCarty opened the exer cises with prayer and the principal speaker was Introduced by Mr. Chas. P. Pressley, w-ho, in a very happy lit tle address, referred touchingly and eloquently to General Lee and stated that he thought every Southern home should he adorned with a portrait of the great Confederate chieftain. Mr. Pressley also made reference to the splendid war record of \lr. I.ouis Rat tey’s father and grandfather on the Battey side of the family and also of Ills maternal grandfather in the civil war. Mr. Battey was warmly congratulat ed aftfr his very excellent address. Captain J. Rice Smith presided at the meeting with his characteristic charm. FUNERAL DR. Help the Stomach Digest Your Food When the stomach fails to di gest and distribute that which is eaten, the bowels become clogged with a mass of waste and refuse that ferments and generates poisons that are grad ually forced Into the blood, caus ing distress and often serious illness. Splendid Work of Fore caster Appreciated. The Savannah river reached its max imum stage of 28.2 feet on Tuesday night and on Wednesday morning at eight o'clock it had fallen consider ably. The river will continue to fall rapidly, according to local forecaster E. R. Emlgh. Mr. Emigh predicted that tile river would reach a maximum stage of between 28 and 29 feet, making this prediction 28 hours in adva.i»» 0 r p,, be very conservative Mr. Emigh made the 28 to 29 foot forecast, although his actual calculations over a day in ad vance were for 28 feet even. The fact that he missed it by two tenths of a foot only demonstrates the expert knowledge that he has of the effect of of rainfall in the watershed on the stage of the river. Mr. Emigh nlmost Invariably is correct in his forecasts and he misses his calculations only In Inches. The people of Augusta and the farm ers of the Savannah river valley are deeply appreciative of Mr. Emigh’s earnest work in connection with river forecasts and the local forecaster is being warmly congratulated Wednes day upon the accuracy of his calcula tions of the water. The weather forecast is for fair (Heather Wednesday night and Thurs day. PICKINGS FROM “PIC By A. DAVISSON Dr. A. B. Martin of Harlem thinks very favorably of the work being done by the government experts, Drs. Riser and Brohun, In hookworm treatment. As frequently noted In The Herald, these physicians are In Columbia county until January 23th. as special ists for tl " relief of this disorder. Other counties, as Richmond, are also being visited. Dr. Martin—in Augusta today— points out as of peculiar significance that so astute a financier and Investor as J. D. Rockefeller would not have made this benefit a part of his South ern Foundation had it not been worth while. Mr. Rockefeller knew this mal ady is rampant among us and can bs cured. The opportunity offered by this free examination is one to be taken advan tage of by every family In the sec tions covered. It Is especially noteworthy that the rise in cotton has proven a boon throughout Pie’s Merchants and others are greatly gratified at the Improvement at once In accounts they carry. Mrs. J. E. Green is visiting Mr. and Mrs. and Master Trimmier at the family home on Greene street. The grandpa doctor says that wljh a new grandson at each end of the line Mrs. Green Is, to say the least, fairly busy. Gentlemen, Including Messrs. Jullen Harris and Steiner Branch, fell to dis cussing "pistol toting." And from what one could hear of the talk we may believe the crowd will be mightily pleased to see Augusta take stalwart steps at once toward stopping the nuisance. Just what was meant by a passen ger’s remark that "Davidson’s Cross ing Is the best looking station on the road," I do not know. Someone sug gested that he meant In the general topography of the out-reaching lawns end residences. Another Intimated the remark had reference to the yoting ladles who regularly- and occasionally —catch the train there. If you want to see how easily we forget the commonest ms tiers of his tory start a query among fairly In telligent readers. Ask your crowd who was vice president under Cleveland’s second term; or, for that matter, dur Ing Roosevelt’s regular term. Ask them If Thos. E. Watson ever ran for the presidency and when. Or, as nearer today's Interest, on what date did the South’s chieftain, General Lee. sur render. Or, In whst way were I,ee end Washington linked In history. And so on, and so on.
