NEW YORK STOCK MARKET
New York. —Changes at the opening of
today’s stock market suggested no defi
nite trend, gains and losses being some
what conflicting. For instance, United
States Steel common, wnose directors
act on the dividend today, showed no
chai\ge. while the preferred stock was
fractionally lower. Other active issues
were either unchanged from yesterday's
close or a trifle higher. Several spe
cialties and obscure stocks rose smart
ly including American Sugar and Beet
Sugar, which gained life and IV4 points.
By the end of the first half hour the en
tire last was higher despite the heavi
ness of our stocks in London.
New York.—Trading was narrow and
dull for the greater part of today’s ses
sion of .the stock exchange. United
States Steel was a feature, some uncer
tainty attending the common dividend,
on which action was to be taken after
the market's close.
Speculation became stagnant in the
final hour. The closing was irregular.
