WITH A LARGE FORGE
BUILDING ON LEVEE
Ah rapidly as a large force of laborers
can work the Southern Railway is
building a track to the city wharf over
the levee. Work began Thursday find
Is continuing with great rapidity Fri
day. The tracks have been laid al
ready ah far as Fifth street nd willa
continue down the levee ns far as
Houston Street, a distance of about
one-half mile, which the Southern has
a tight to do under Its contract with
the eity. The tracks are being started
from the Southern yard between Fifth
and f'lxth Streets.
Mr. It H. I’egram, general agent of
the Southern Railway al Charleston,

matter of n terminal railroad being
bull! through the 500 block to the
wharf, made the statement at a meet
ing of the Merchants and Manufactur
ers' Association a short time ago to
the effect that Hie Southern would
build to the wharf.•using the levee, re
gardless of what was done with ref
erence to the Oeorgla Terminal Com
pany petition.
JOE GRIM IN FIGHT FOR HIS

Joe Grim is making another fight—this
time to live.
He's the fellow who defied anyone in
the world to knock him out. Several
bonecrushera accepted Joe's defl. The
constant healings received by the Iron
man of the ring hastened his removal to
a sanitarium.
After undergoing treatment for two
years Joe recently was discharged. Poo
lers advised him to lead the simple life
which he now Is doing amid the pines
of New Jersey. Joe Is done with the
ring, however He’ll he content to ra
gatn his health.

reasons why gasoline has increas
ed in price from 8 to 22 cents a
gallon in eight months, indicate
manipulation of the supply at the
wells is the cause.
According to the experts’ fig
ures, the oil trust will clear a
profit of $112,000,000 on 70,000,000
barrels of crude oil stored away.
For every barrel of oil which
costs 40 cents to produce and
handle, the experts say, the trust
will charge $2.10.
One year ago crude oil was sold
at 35 cents a barret.
