raid. Shortly after 9:30 last night De
tectives Glover and Redd, who had been
assigned to the case, noted two men
who later proved to be Carr and Jones
approaching the building under suspic
ion. They were arrested by the officers
after they (Carr and Jones) had gone to
the burned building and unearth one bar
rel and one case supposed to contain
whiskey or other intoxicating liquors.
A search warrant was issued and Lieu
tenant Britt, Detectives Whittle, Glover,
Redd and Officers Matthews, Foster and
Goodson were detailed to investigate.
The bricks were thrown aside and a large
quantity of intoxicating liquors was un
earthed.
Work with pick and shovel revealed a
further large store of casks, barrels and
cases. It is estimated that the value of
the liquor confiscated is approximately
five thousand dollars. The disposition of
it will be decided later.
