TOURISTS CONTINUE THE HABIT AND BEAT
SENATORS BY SCORE OF SIX TO FIYE
Ip a Loosely Played But Exciting Contest the Locals Come
Out on Top---Several Errors Fail to Rob the Game of In
terest.
Upon the completion of a little booklet
entitled the “Joys and Sorrows of an Offi
cial Scorer” by B. C. we (this is an edi
torial we) are thinking of preparing a
baseball masterpiece entitled ‘ The Psy
chology of Habit as Applied to Winning
Games.” That Auugsta team just natu
rally has the habit and they have it bad.
The Sentors did their best to gently stop
them but it was no use. Eubanks’ ag
gregation can’t lose for winning.
When the Senators reached five runs
it was truly a case of “Ala-Bama”—En
glish translation without charge is “Here
we rest”—baseball jargon, “Nothin’ mo’
doin’.” And at this point it was found
that the Tourists had affixed some six
runs more or less, but mainly six, in the
official score and that’s what counts li.
the race for the rag. So the boys from
Alabama added another to the right-hand
column while the Tourists climbed some
points higher.
Having slipped the above rambling re
marks over on the fans while they were
not looking we will now get down to
business. The game was a good one,
filled with many thrills, in spite of seve
ral almost inexcusable errors which we
will pass up without remark.
Montgomery Scores.
The Senators—and. by the way, do
they call them the Senators on account
of the many debates with his umps?—
got busy in the first rack. After Propst
had retired on a Casey and Parker had
popped to Burrus, everything looked se
rene but things are not always as they
seem. Bowden caught one of Patter
son’s swift ones in the ribs and prompt
ly stole second. That boy, incidentally,
is a streak on the bases. McClesky hit
to Heck, who threw to Brouthers. The
first sacker dropped the throw and Mc-
Clesky went to third while Bowden count
ed in. Crowell singled, scoring McClesky.
Crowell was caught, Eubanks to Mc-
Duff.
,Augutsa Goes Ahead.
Augusta forged ahead in her half of
the first. Brazier hit third base with
one that went for a hit. Heck tried to
bunt but popped out to Edny. Brouthers
got in the way of one of Edny’s offer
ings and ambled to first. Roth singled
between first and second. Brazier scored

Medlock and Burr s i >pi>ed out
The Senators tied things up i. the
third. Parker doubled to left. Bowden
lew out to Medlock, who made a pretty
catch. McClesky grounded out to Mr.
Duff. Crowell singled 10 right and Par
ker scored. Clare hit to flock who.
as strange as it sounds, made an error.
It was a rather hard chance but not
hard enough to score as a hit. Hutchins
was a good waiter and drew a free ride,
loading the bsaes. Ward faced Patter
son with determination written all over
his beaming countenance—and struck
out.
Augusta began to get them regularly
in the fifth and kept It up, one an in
ning, for three innings. In the fifth:
With one out Heck singled. Brouthers
went out, Edny to Hutchins, advancing
Heck. Roth singled, scoring Heck. Bow
den gave an exhibition of inside ball on
the play. He made no attempt to throw
home except a most excellent bluff. Edny
took the throw and caught Rothln a
chase between first and second. Bowden
ran in and made the put-out.
In the sixth McDuff put his head in the
way of a swift one from Edny. It looked
for a minute as if the game second
sacker would have to leave the play,
but he stuck it out and ran his own
base In spite of an offer of Bowden to
let him have a runner. Medlock bunted.
Edny threw wild to second trying to
force McDuff and both runners were
safe. Burrus advanced McDuff and Med
lock with a bunt. Eubanks flew out to
right. Burrus made a fake attempt to
go home and Clare missed the throw from
the field. McDuff counted.
In the seventh Brazier drew a pass;
went to second on Heck's sacrifice. Heck
was safe when Edny threw wild. The
decision was disputed on first. Roth
flew out to center. Brazier tagged up
and scored on the play.
Montgomery came back strong in the
eighth. With one out Crowell drew a
pass. He went to second on Clare's in
field out. Hutchins singled. Crowell
went to third and Hutchins to second.
Ward singled and both men scored. Edny
hit to Burrus, who booted the ball and
things took on a sickly hue. E banks
whipped one to Brouthers and Edny was
cauKl.l oil' me bag.
