DORSEY FAILED TO
ATTEND MEETING
Atlanta, Ga —Woodrow Wilson Dem
ocrats of Fulton County, among them
many friends of Hugh M. Dorsey, were
disappointed yesterday when the gov
ernor-elect failed to attend and speak
to a Wilson rally held under the au
spices of the Fulton County Woodrow
Wilson Club.
Mr. Dorsey's friends were particu
larly anxious for him to attend the
meeting because of questions which
have been raised concerning his sup
port of President Wilson. They hop
ed he would muke a speech removing
all doubt as to the earnestness and en
thusiasm of his endorsement both of
the president and the Democratic na
tional administration.
Another expected feature of Interest
that failed to develop was a meeting
face to face between Mr. Dorsey and
Senator Hoke Smith. The Fulton
County Wilson Club Invited Senator
Smith, Governor Harris and Governor-
Fleet Dorsey to make addresses, so
that It would be shown forth to the
world thHt all factions of the Demo
cratic party are united In their sup
port of the president.
On account of Mr. Dorsey's thrusts
at Senator Smith In his acceptance
speech In Macon Tuesday, the meet
ing between him and the senator at the
speakers' table was anticipated with
keen interest.
Besides Senator Smith and Governor
Harris, among the other notables who
spoke were Congressman WMlllam
Schley Howard, of the Fifth district,
and Judge George Hlllyer, who admit*
ted Woodrow Wilson to the bar in At
lanta when ho was Judge of Fulton
superior court.
MADE MOONSHINE
111 HEART OF CITY
Atlanta, Ga. —Discovery of a moon
shine diatlllery In the heart of Atlanta,
turning out corn liquor within a black
of the terminal station, has convinced
the police authorities that they have
merely scratched the surfnce In ar
resting the negro blacksmith who was
operating the diatlllery In question.
He Installed the distillery In the
basement of his hlackNinith shop, ar
ranged the flue so that the smoke
would mingle with the smoke from his
forge, and connected hta pipes with the
city water supply and his discharge
vent with a city aewer.
A United States revenue oflfcer who
descended Into the basement through
a trap door stopped into n coldron full
of boiling hot fashing* and scalded
both his feet. One thousand gallons
of •'boor" was seised, and the distillery
was taken out by the roots und hauled
to the Federal Hulldlng in an automo
bile truck, to be used as evidence in
the blacksmith's trial.
On top of the discovery of this clev
erly concealed distillery, a county po
liceman, early yesterday morning, ran
down a traveling corn liquor factory
mounted on the back of an automobile,
and this apparatus is now In the hands
of the county authorities, who prize It
highly as a relic.
For several weeks the police depart
ment. In co-operation with the county
police and the United states revenue
officers, have been engaged In war on
the purveyors of corn liquor, anil have
made It so hot for the mountaineers
hauling the same Into the city that
those shrewd cltlxens have been oblig
ed to exercise their Ingenuity to the
utmost.
