war is authorised to spend (not over $9,-
000,000) Immediately for permanent es
tablishment of aviation schools and
posts, experimental stations and proving
grounds, barracks, quarters, storehouses,
administrate nbutldings. hangars, shops,
geragex H nd other permanent equipment.
Of the 19,000,000 available for these pur
poses, 52,500,000 may be used to buy
land.
For the naval establishment $11,000,000
Is available for aviation. Other larger
Items under the naval establishment are:
I‘ay of the navy $75,000,000; provisions
$51,740,000. construction and repair $54.-
000,000; Ammunition $*0,064,000; reserve
ordnance, supplies $19,000,000; torpedoes
and appliances $11,000,000; ammunition
and batteries for merchant auxiliaries
$49,000,040; new batteries for ships $22,-
iklO.000; powder purchased and manu
factured $20,000,000; pay of enlisted men
In the Marine corp $4,200,000; contingent
expenses of the Marino corps, $2,000,000;
bureau of standards $45*,400.
Approximately $500,000 Is made avail
able for naval training stations in Cali
fornia. Rhode Island, on the Great Lakes
and at St. Helena.
The total estimate submitted by the
war and navy department* aggregated
$5.4(0,000.000. but the appropriations com
mittee cut It down.
In addition to the great total appro
priation. the ordnance department of the
army Is authorised to enter contracts for
sums aggregating $**.550,000. The big
