Pasteurization of Milk—What It Is
Prof. Pasteur of Paris, France, first applied heat to Beer and Wine so
they would not ferment.
Perfect pasteurization of Milk means to heat to 145 degrees F for 30
minutes, thereby freeing the Milk from being a carrier of disease germs,
making it safe for anyone to use.

Baby Health-
Augusta’s Wealth
Augusta’s Better Babies Cam
paign begins today and will
continue throughout the week.
Dr. Marion Kershaw, M. D.,
who is chairman of the Public
Health Department of The
Augusta Woman’s Club, has
arranged for a rousing celebra
tion of National Baby Week.
“Don’t neglect Baby Week on
account of the war,” said Dr.
Mulherin, Augusta’s Baby Spe
cialist, a few days ago in a
public address. “Babies will
be needed after the war as well
as other blessings.”
The first week in May is an
nually selected for concerted
action of many organizations
in stimulating education along
subjects pertaining to baby life
and Dr. Kershaw urges that
every one in Augusta co-oper
ate with her in this great and
good work. Being a physician
of experience she knows how
valuable Baby education to
the present and future moth
ers. Hence during the coming
week there will be meetings
held on each afternoon and
evening in various parts of the
city and talks, demonstrations
and other features of baby con
servation will be given. The
public is cordially invited to
attend all these meetings.
Meeting for Negro Nurses.
Since mothers have realized
the necessity of keeping babies
out in the open air, the baby is
usually with his nurse more
than with his mother, and as
ignorance is often criminal, the
club women of Augusta have
arranged to hold an instruc
tive meeting for all nurses
whose employers will permit
them to come. The meeting
will be held at Bethel A. M. E.
Church on P’Antignac Street,
Thursday afternoon at four
o’clock. Mothers of babies are
urged to see that these, their
assistants, attend these meet
ings, which will be of an edu
cational nature, regarding the
care and feeding of babies.

—Talks to the colored nurses,
the Mothers’ Helpers.
FRIDAY NIGHT
Sibley Mill Settlement.—Dr.
Gehrken, Miss Woodson.
Helpful literature will be
distributed at each lecture that
can be talked up at home for
reference.
Special attention is called to
the talks to be given to the
children’s colored nurses at
Bethel Church. Mothers are
asked to arrange so that their
nurses will be given the time
off to attend. They will be
detained only from 4 to 5
o’clock and the time will be
well spent.

Too much care cannot be exercised in the treatment of babies during
