Weather.
Was showery yesterday in the upper
Mississippi valley the western upper Lake
region, the South Atlantic states and the
un>er Ohio valley. Rah igh reported rain
fall of 1.14 inches. Rain was still falling
at that point last night.
Showers are probable today in the Lake
region and today or tonight in the mid
dle Atlantic states. Except for showers
in eastern North Carolina today, fair
weather is indicated for the cotton belt
for the next 36 hours.
Cotton Opinions.
R. H Hooper & Co.: Purchases on fur
ther declines seem safest considering the
gloomy outlook for the crop and the indi
cations of a more or less steady trade
demand.
J. S. Baches & Co.: We believe it would
be sound common intelligence for the*’
holders of unhedged spot to cell their cot
ton around th*- present level of values
and for speculative longs to take profits.
J. W. Jay «fe Co.: The trend from this
level wil depend partly upon weather
conditions.
Wagner & Co.: weather will be
the ail-xmportant factor now. and as re
cently stated, June is usually a good
weather month.
Hubbard Bros. & Co.: The local feeling
is not so bullish, and a further reaction
is generally expected. ,
S. M. Weld & Co.' We suggest pur
chases around present quotations.
Stocks.
Bulish activity is expected to continue.
The w-aiting lits of buyers appears to be
large enough to soon reverse reactionary
waves. The sudden announcement of
the return of the wire companies to pri
vate ownership may Stimulate the rails.
Hhigher prices are being predicted for
United States Steel, RBC., CRU., CEN,
LEA., RG.. California Packing, Sugar and
Tobacco stocks. Considerable short cov
ering is noted in the coppers and low'
priced rails.
