BUSINESS WOMAN’S CLUB ENJOY
BEAUTIFUL LUNCHEON AT Y. W.
C. A. ATHLETIC BUILDING.
Those who think to give a luncheon
, means too much thought and work,
should take lessons from the women of
[ the Augusta Business Women’s Club. The
[dub gave a most attractive luncheon on
Friday at the Y. W. C\ A., and proved
that it is no.t necessary to corrugate
one's brow, lose one’s temper, and go to
bed with a sick headache because of a
luncheon; that Is. it dot; not have that
effect upon women, as well rounded in the
art of things as are the women compos
ing the Augusta Business Woman's Club.
Business women, housekeepers, and well
versed in the art of entertaining, these
women went right ahead, and with the
same efficient system they used in their
business, completed arrangements and
executed plans within two hours, and
complimented their guests with a most
attractive luncheon.
The luncheon was served on a large
round table which was covered with a
handsome damask cloth, the centerpiece
a cut glass bowl of yellow ffovvers; the
color scheme of yellow and white being
carried out in detail. There was a salad
course, ices and fruits.
The event of the luncheon was a won
derfully interesting talk by Mrs. Julia
Lester Dillon, the club’s representative at

TO HAVE BUSINESS COURSES
STANDARDIZED TO BE WORK OF
BUSINESS WOMEN'S CLUBS.
U tile Augusta Business Woman's Club
required any further incentive to further
activity, which, by the way, it did not. it
received It when Mrs. Julia Hester Dil
lon gave brief and most eomprebnsive
resume of the State Federation of !>ro
tessiona! and Business Women's Clubs
held 111 Atlanta, and which she attended
as a delegate from the Business Woman's
Club. The club was most fortunate in
having Mrs. Dillon as their delegate, and
the message she brought back from the
federation was dear, concise and most
inspiring.
This federation is the output of a firm
belioi on the part of the business women
ot this country, that there is too much
waste of woman-power in tin* commercial
world, and that when business women
work ns a group instead of as Individ
uals. their influence will he mtlch more
powerful.
“Efficiency" will be the watch-word of
the federation, and to tills end a concert
ed effort Will be made this summer to
have the legislature create the office of
inspector of business colleges, whereby
all business courses may be standard
ized. An effort will nlrto be made to
have laws passed requiring girls and
young women to obtain more education
before invading the business world.
The federation alro stressed the fact
that each and every girl serving In anv
sore, no matter whether it be a ten cent
store or one high up in the commercial
world, should esteem herself n part of
the great machinery that is getting ready
for organization, that she should do her
work in her most efficient manner ami
so qualify as a part of the great whole
that is to be of such wonderful help to
women throughout the country.
It will he interesting to Augusta ns to
know that Mrs. K \V. Carroll, wife of
the editor of The Athens Daily Herald,
and hergTlf the society editress of that
daily, was elected state president of tlie
federation, and that Mrs. Julia Lester
Dillon was honored by being made chair
man of the nominating committee.

the state meeting of Business and Pro
fessional women, which was held in At
lanta, June 13th-14th. Mrs. Dillon is moat
enthusiastic over the conventibn, and
brought back many splendid ideas which
the business clubs of Georgia hope to
carry out in the near future.
The Augusta Business Woman’s Club
has the honor of having two of ltg mem
bers on the State Board of Directors for
Georgia, Mrs. Julia Lester Dillon and
Miss Annie May O’Connell having been
elected to serve. It is a compliment to
the Augusta club, and while It means a
good bit of work, it will be cheerfully
done. The first meeting of Ihe directors
and state officers wlil be held in Athens
sometime in the near future.
