BOLO SHIP SLAVA
SUNK B! BRITISH
Helsingfors.—British warships on Wed
nesday evening torpedoed the bolshevik
armored cruiser Slava, which sang im
mediately.
The only Russian warship bearing the
name of Slava to be found in available
lists was sunk by the German squadron
on October 17. 1917, in the Gulf of Riga.
It seems probable, however, that some
other craft was given the name of Slava,
which was entered in the Russian admir
alty reports as a battleship.
A report received on Friday stated that
the Russian cruiser Oleg had been sunk
on Wednesday by a British submarine.
London. —The bolshevik battleship An
drei Pervosvanni is believed to have
been sunk by a British torpedoboat near
Kronstadt on Thursday, according to a
Finnish naval dispatch quoted in a Hel
singfors cablegram to the Daily Mail.
The telegram adds that the bolshevik bat
tleship F’etropavlosk has hoisted the
white flag.
The Andrei Pervosvanni was built in
1907. It was 454 feet long and had a
beam of 80 feet, being maned by 933
men. The vessel carried a principal bat
tery of four 12-inch guns, with fourteen
8-inch, twelve 47-inch and a heavy minor
battery. The Petropavlovsk is one of the
latest Russian battleships, displacing 23,-
370 tons. It is 500 feet long, with a beam
of 85 feet and has a complement of 1,100
men. This vessel carries twelve 12-inch
guns with the usual smaller calibre wea
pons.

former commander of the German troops
in East Africa, is organizing a large army
in East Prussia with the object of fight
ing both the forces of Gustav Noske,
minister of national defense, and the En
