AUGUSTA, GEORGIA, SUNDAY MORNING, AUGUST 27, 1922
You Compare
De Smythe?
SAN DIEGO. Cal. —Girls, compare
your figure with that of Carmel de
Smythe.
California recognizes her ns its
most perfect specimen of woman
hood.
Here are her measurement®—get
out your tape measure, and see how
you stand;
Height 5 feet, 5 1-2 inches
Weight 140 pounds
Neck 12 1-2 inches
Arm 10 1-4 inches
Forearm 9 inches
Chest 36 inches
Waist 26 inches
Hips 40 inches
Upper leg 22 inches
Calf 14 Inches
Ankle 8 3-4 inches
Do you fall short of that standard?
Well, don't worry, for Miss de
Smythe says with <i little care you
can attain a figure as perfect as
hers.
“I wasn’t born that way,” she says.
•‘Exercise gave me beauty of form.
•’Not dry, uninteresting calisthen
ics or work in a gymnasium, though
they’re valuable, if you find any zest
in them.
“But the exercise I found most val
uable was on the beaches and in the
mountains.
“Nothing can beat swimming. I
had the advantage of nearness to the
seacoast, but that’s- not necessary. If
you’re miles Inland, the river or lake
—or even the indoor swimming pool
—will help you improve your figure.
“A close second to swimming in
Improving your’ form is mountain
climbing. And you don’t need moun
tains—ls you live in a flat region,
hike, and put all the pep nnd vigor
you’ve got into your stride.
“Or If you’re an office girl, walk
upstairs in the morning instead of
taking tho elevator.”
Miss de Smythe was the winner
In 1916 of the San Francisco Expo
sition contest to find the most per
fect feminine figure In California.
Since then she’s won many other
awards, and her friends now claim for
her the honor of being the most per
fect girl In the west.
And she’s willing to challenge any
girl in the United States!
