ATLANTA. Oa.— Preparations are

of work on the Confederate memorial
monument on the cast side of Stone
Mountain, an undertaking interrupted

Mr Borglum Is having a specially
designed lens pround for the protec
tion of figures of increased size
against the face of the mountain in
great file*.
Such methods have ne%er been used
before, according to tbe sculptor, who
has gotten down to th© actual work of
drawn* In the groups of heroic fi
gures to be carved out of the side of
the big rock. The work of projection
has to he done at night, he said but
added that It la pract cable. "Why 1

pictures on Mars. If they could get a
powerful enough light." he said.
Carving will begin either at the
head of General Robert K Lee. or that
of President Davis, but It has not
been settled which.

Stone Mountain Is 15 miles east of
Atlanta. It is Siiid to be the largest
solid granite monolith in ttoe world,
rising 686 feet above she surround
ing plain and standing a dome-like
mass of solid rock, seven miles In cir
cumference.

RAID AT GRANITEVILLE
AIKEN, S. C.—Deputy Sheriff Rob
inson and oflfcers Coleman and Shep
pard made a raid on the place of J.
B Goa, and aon at GraniteviUe Sa
turday afternoon and seized several
gallon* of liquor. The young Goss
drew a revolver on the deputy eheriff
and def.ed him to enter on the pre
mises. Both father and son were ar
rested and are now in Aiken jail.

Senator Watson Says Letter
Not Authorized for
Publication
ATLANTA, Ga. The campaign
manager for Cliff Walker, candidate
for governor, is in an embarrassing
position because' of his publication
early this week of a telegram from
Senator Thomus E. Watson to Maj.
Charley McGregor, in which the sena
tor charged Governor Hardwick with
having failed to keep promises which
he made in the campaign of 1920,
The following statement has been

reply wa* not for public use, apd stat
ed specifically, also, that I did not In

state campaign. I received an ac
knowledgement from McGregor and a
promise that my wishes would be re
spected. I do not wish to comment
beyond that.”
It is understood that McGregor
claims that Walker headquarters vio
lated the confidence. In the 191 S cam.
paign Major McGregor went about the
stat • making speeches (or Watson,
and Watson published cards saying
that McGregor was not authorized to
speak for him.
