S. G. S. KINGDOM
Is Preparing to Crown Its
Rulers
BELGRADE. Elaborate prepara
tions are being made both here and
, at Zagreb, the Croation capital, for
the anointing and crowning of King
Alexander and Queen Marie as king
and queen of the Kingdom of the
Serbs. Croats and Slovenes, which
will take place this summer.
The monastery of Gitche is being
restored for the purpose. The cere
mony will follow the Serbian prece
dents, but several features will be
adopted from the ancient ceremonial
of the Croatian kings, before Croatia
became an appanage of the house of
Hapsburg.
The foreign guests at the corona
tion will be a sharp reminder of the
changes In the royal families that
have occurred as a result of the
World War. But the house of Hohen
zollern will be represented through
the Slgmaringen branch, which is
reigning in Rumania. Queen Marie
of Serbia is a daughter of Queen
Marie of Rumania.
One of the dethroned kings who
will attend the ceremony, on the
ground of relationship to Queen Marie
of Serbia, is ex-King George of
Greece, who is married to Queen Ma
rie's sister, ex-Queen Elizabeth. Tlius
the family of Marie of Rumania, call
ed the “Mother-in-Law’’ of the Balk
ans, will be represented at the cere
mony by two reigning and one de
posed king.
A Balkan sovereign who will not
take part in the festivities will bo
Boris, king of the Bulgarians. It is
extremely unlikely that Boris, reign
ing over a defeated people, will be
asked to mingle with the conquerors,
each of whom now holds territory
that belonged to Bulgaria before the
war.
The event will be made all the more
notable because it will mark the thou
sandth anniversary of the first king
dom of Croatia.
JAPS SEK HELIUM
Will Experiment With Vol
canic Gases
TOKlO.—Helium from volcanic
gases will be the result sought in
experiments projected by the Japan
ese navy, which will shortly send a
party of naval engineers to several
of the volcanoes, in which Japan
abounds to try to collect gases for
inflating lighter-than-air flying craft.
The disaster to the navy’s dirigi
ble No. 3, the S. S. type airship which
burst into flames and fell north of
Tokio last March is the incentive to
the projected experiments. Naval
authorities, alive to the danger of
hydrogen as inflating gas. are deter
mined to find economical means of
replacing that gas by helium.
■Lieutenant Kano will lead the party
which will visit several well-known
volcanoes. The experiments, which
will be made by means of captive bal
loons, are attended with considerable
danger, but the Japanese press de
clares that if they are successful the
aviation prospects of the empire may
be revolutionized.

imports by a value of 23,190,000
rubles. Grain was the chief item
of export and rye was the leading
product. The total grain exporta

German>%and England took 53.7

that year, and supplied 66.5 percent
of its imports.

Friends Await Spirit Letter
Explaining Author’s Death
SAN JOSE. Calif. —A strange fan
tiny was born In the brain of Homer
Eon Flint, writer of fiction, and he
put it into print.
Now bis mysterious death parallels
that fantasy.
There remain* but one'phenome
non to complete the similitude —that
his will stretch from beyond
the grave to write full explanation of
the mystery.
Ills typewriter, standing In his
former workroom, awaits his touch
a sheet of paper ready.
The highmark In Flint's career
was reached In a short story, "The
Greater Miracle," published In 1022.
Flint was a firm believer In
spiritualism, and the central char
acter In the story returned from\the
grave to dear his name.
The spirit character wrote his
message upon a typewriter which
Lad been prepared for him.
Flint’s f»ody was found at the
bottom of a precipice under the
w’retkage of a taxicab.
"He hired me to drive from Oak
land to a small village several mile*
away," says the owner of that tax!,
L, H. Handley. "Everything wen»
along all right until we came to u
lonely road.
"Then he drew a gun, made mq
throw up my hands, robbed me of
my money and made me get out of
the car.
' He drove away up the road."
Handley's story Is scoffed at by
those who best knew Flint.

"It is absurd to believe that a
would have committed such a
crime," declares his widow, now
teaching school to support her three
children.
So. those who know him have left
his typewriter in h!s workroom, with
paper in It, ready for Flint to answer
tho statement of the taxi driver, to
explain his death and remove sus
picion from hi* name.
Each day they look at that paper,
hut Its smooth white surface is not
tout lieu. Flint has not explained.
