wooden still outfit near North Au
gusta Wednesday morning The of
fleers said the still was located on
I'retty Rock Branch, about four miles
from North Augusta. In addition to
the still. 15 gallons of liquor, about
3.00(» gallons of beer and eight big
fermenters were destroyed and a
horse and wagon were seised. Three
men. according to the officers, two
white and one colored, were at the,
still at the time the raid was made,
the two white men making good their
cHCHpe. The negro was captured. The
negro was arrested on a charge of
violating the prohibition law and It is
understood warrants will be sworn
out for the two white men.
GAS FUMES FATAL
TO YOUNq WHITE MAN.
John Alonso Shaw, young white
man who was a textile worker In one
of the Augusta mills, was asphyxiated
early Wednesday afternoon by natural
gas, a pocket of which he struck
while digging a well near the Furry*
Ferry road, about 11 miles from Au
gusta. It was said that he struck
the gas about 60 feet beneath the
ground As soon as young flhnw
sceuted the escaping fumes he cried
out for help, and John J. Shaw, his
father, made a desperate attempt to
save the life of his son. However,
he was overoome by the deadly vapor
before help could reach him. The
bucket, used fur lowering anyone into
the well and huuling them out, was
let down and the body of young Hhaw
brought up.

day afternoon at 4 o'clock, Rev. Thos. •

FALLS TO HIB DEATH.
Robert L. Moody was fatally Injured
Wednesday afternoon when he fell
25 feet from a second-story balcony
of his home at lffUVfc Hroad street to
the pavement. An nmbulAnee was
quickly called and the Injured man
rushed to the University Hospital,
where an attempt was made to save
hi* life. His skull la understood to
have been crushed In the fall.
Mrs I*. Jl Morris, an aunt of the
deceased, with whom he made his
hlme, stated that he leaned forward
on the bannister and pitched forward
to the afreet. Mrs. Morris' opinion
was that be lost his balance during
n sinking attack, to which he was
said to be subject
The funeral will be held from the
residence Thursday afternoon at ft*oo
o'clock. Rev. R. F Fraser officiating,

Surviving are One daughter. Miss

John Emerson did not know when

that it was the first anniversary of

him with a gift. So after he got
down to the office he. called up his
Jeweler and ordered him to send a
gift to his wife, telling to make the
choice himself The Jeweler selected
a pair of gaudy earrings. When John
'-ot home he thought the new brace
let on his wife's wrist was HIS pres
ent, so ho praised it and slammed
the earrings. Then the trouble
started.

front, the pastor first taking his
place In front of the chancel. The
ushers, Messrs. Ed Wiley, Lovie Al
frlend. of Richmond. Va. William
Layson and James Lewis, taking
their places at the rear. Next came
the sweet and dainty little flower
girls scattering rose petals from
dainty baskets. They were dressed
In pretty ruffled frocks of blue and
pink organdie. Master Wilfred
Berry, Jr., bore the ring In the
heart of a whole rose. Last came
the lovely bride on the arm of her
friend. Miss Kathryn Wiley, meet
ing the groom with his best man,
Mr. Hubert Blanchard, of Augusta.
Mrs. W. N. Coleman gracefully
presided at the pipe organ, playing
several selections before the cere
mony. Miss Sara Hunt sang "At
Dawning" and "Sunrise and You."
The bridal party entered to the
strains of Mendelssohn’s "Wedding
March.” merging into Lohengrin’s
ns the bride and groom entered.
MacDowell’s "To a Wild Rose" was
softly played dullng the ceremony.
The church was beautiful In Its
simple decorations of pink and
green flower baskets filled with
pink roses.
The lovely bride wore a becoming
dress of exquisite model, handsome
hat and other accessories to harmo
nize. Her llowers were white roso
buds and vallyey lilies. The brides
maid was lovely In green crepe de
chine with gold trimming and cor
sage of ping rose buds.
The bride Is one of Sparta’s
sweetest and most attractive girls,
she Is a graduate of the Sparta
schools and the state normal. The
groom Is a splendid young business
man of Harlem. Both are well con
nected with some of the state s best

in which they were riding was
struck by a Pennsylvania Railroad
