West End Boys Swim
from North Augusta
Bridge to Sand Bar
Ferry
Paul Stewart, who recently
mm from the Locks to the
King Mill Bridge In three hours,
accompanied by Edgar Mills and
Wylie DeLoach, started a swim
<ln%n the Savannah river at the
North Augusta bridge Friday
morning, but owing to shallow
places In the river they stopped
at the San Bar Ferry Bridge.
Edgar Mills dropped out with
in a half mile of the bridge, hut
Stewart and DeLoach seemed
to be going strong when the
bridge was reached. Shallow
places In the river rendered It
almost Impossible to swim be
low the bridge, said Secretary
Sheppard, of the West End V.
M. C. A., who accompanied the
swimmers.
It was announced Friday that
these three boys will attempt a
longer swim In the near future,
or as soon as the water gets
back to normal. It took Stew
art and JjeLoach but 2 hours
and 82 minutes to swim ap
proximately five miles under se
vere conditions.
