ADVENTURES
or the TWINS
By Olive Roberts Barton
There wss Ween y, the elephant.
"Let's go and visit Mister and
Mrs. Seal," said Weeny, the ele
phant "The weather Is getting
warm here, and besides 1 hear that
It's all the style to spend your va
cation In the cold north.”
"Do seals live In the north
asked Nick.
"I should say so," said Weeny.
"On Icebergs or some place like
that."
"Then let's go there,” said Nancy,
"That would he a lot of fun."
So Weeny fixed the things In his
satchel and Nancy and Nick got up
on his back and away they went
toward the cold cold north.
After while they came to a place
where there was a lot of and
sure enough, thee was a little house
with a sign on It which said, "Mis
ter and Mrs. Seal—Their House.”
So Weeny stopped and rang the
door-hell with his trunk.
Mrs. Seal opened the door with
ore of Iter flippers and looked out.

Ernie Golden, Musical
Director, Finds Visitors
Full of Sentiment
No <1 (•locates to the Democratic
Convention were heard to admit
that New York was too speedy
for them, hut according to Ernie
Golden, director of the orchestra
at the famous McAlpin Hotel,
they had at least to have their
dances slowed up!
"It was the strangest thing,”
Mr. Golden relates, "but 1 re
ceived hundreds of requests to
slow down the tempo of the
music. 1 was playing at the rate
New Yorkers demand, which is a
pretty good clip, and the floors
were covered during most of two

"Why, how do y* do!” she eald
pleasantly. "If It Isn’t Weeny, the
old circus elephant! Como here,
Solomon, and say how do y’ do to
the company.”
Out came Mister Seal at that end
said a how nice It was to meet an
old friend 'n' everything, and then
ho said how do y’ do to the Twins,
and everybody was happy.
"We’ve come to spend part of our
vacation If It's all the same to you,”
said Weeny.
"Sure, come right In,” said Mrs.
Heal hospitably.
Weeny looked nt. the tiny door
way and shook his head. "X guess
I'll stay outside If you don't mind,”
he said, "but Nancy and Nick may
go In If they wish. I'll go and take
a snooze as I’ve come pretty Xar
and I’m' pretty tired.”
"All right." said Mrs. Seal. “Come
right In, children, and I’ll show you
some circus posters of tis doing our
weeks with convention visitors.
“They applauded more heartily
than New Yorkers, but I noticed
that tome of them dropped out
before the dancea were over, al
most ns if they were winded. To
this minute 1 don’t know whether
that was it, or whether it was
just that they thought more sen
timent could be expressed by slow
music.
"When I asked them what waa
the matter, they said they were
used to pieces like ‘Maytimo*
which really gives the dancer
time to ho graceful. When I
played ‘Mnytime’ they were per

"Hurrah!” cried Nick. Tm glad
X came.”
So in went Nancy and Nick to
see the circus posters In Mister and
Mrs. Seal's house while Weeny
slipped on his nighty and went to
take a snooze.
Weeny was very tired and soon
he was snoozing like old Whlzzy

Tornado on a rampage.
He slept and slept and slept and
all the time he was sleeping Nancy
and Nick were looking at circus
posters In Mister and Mrs. Seal's
house.
Pretty soon, or I mean pretty
late, Mrs. Seal folded up all the
posters and put them away In the
cupboard, where they kept all the
things for their circus acts.
“Now I’ll see about lunch," said
Calling In the Expert
she. "Solomon, go and see If the
elephant is comfortable, and ask
him if he eats fish.”
Out went Mister Seal.
In about two seconds. In came
Mister Seal in a hurry.
"He's gone!" he cried. "The place
he was standing on was Ice and It

They all rushed out at that, and
