games to go, the Augusta Tygers
begin a three-game series In Green

home Thursday to take on Michael

A few more wins and Augusta
will have the pennant In tow. In
fact, the flag is already virtually
conceded to the Tygers everywhere

where the fans will expert Kay

sensational home-stretch spurt.

club entered the charmed circle of
serious pennant contenders.
By an odd coincidence Detroit and
New York occupy the exact relative
positions they held Just seven days
ago. Washington trails the former
by two games and fit. Louis follows
In fourth place at a distance of two
games.
Cleveland also had a very successful
week, capturing five out of seven
contests and advancing to fifth place.
Boston, losing six out of seven, con
tinued down the toboggan and brought
up in the cellar. The Athletics hold
down seventh place by a margin of
one point.
Cincinnati made National League
followers sit up and take notice with
a winning drive of six victories In
eight starts. As Brooklyn did al
most as well, however, the Reds fail
ed to oust the Robins from fourth
place. The Dodgers won five and
lost three. They now trail Chicago
by a game and a half and lead Cin
cinnati by the same margin.
The Glanta still rest soundly on the
top round of the ladder, with the Pi
rates seven games and a half to their
rear In aecond place.

CHICAGO—Babe Ruth, apparent
ly not satisfied with having hung
up a new record for home runs in
one month with his 14 in July,
crashed out five circuit blows In the
past week as the first step toward
another new mark in August. His
brace of four ply smashes gave him
a season's total of 38, four behind
the number he had on August 10,
1921, the year In which he set the
record at 59 home runs.
Other heavy hitters In the major
leagues were only mildly active
with the exception of Bottomley, of
the St. Louis Nationals, who gar

place In his circuit.
Fournier of Brooklyn continues to
