Education Pays in Leader
ship, Influence and Honors
An investigation published by the United States Bureau of
Education shows that of all the people in tho United States who
have performed distinguished service snd received high honors
that there was:
One person out of etch 150,000 who had no schooltng.
Tne person out of each 37,500 with a common school education.
of each 1,724 with a high school education.
One person out of each 187 with a college education.
The above lines show the comparative chances of no school
ing and with the different grades of education. Parents who
give their children a common school education give them four
times the chanco to become a leader and receive distinction that
the child with no schooling has. Those who give their children
a high school education give them 87 times the chance, and the
parents who sacrifice and give their children a college educa
tion give them more than 800 times the chance of the child
without schooling.—-E. J. Bodman in Ranktr-Farmer. _

MARKET ADVANCED
Spot Cotton at Augusta
Quoted at 28.44
By W. A. LUFBURROW.
Market Editor.
Totton dragged along In a. very In
different way Monday and on the
close of the market spot cotton at
Augusta was quoted at 28.44. an ad
vance of six points from previous
closing quotations. Trading Is limit
ed and weather and crop conditions
are being watched closely. It is an
interesting guess what acceptance or
the Dawes plan by the Germans will
have on the cotton market. Events
point to a brighter outlook in the tex
tile situation.
‘'Summing up the textile situation
Bradstreet says:
"Trade in primary markets for fin
ished cottons showed a further mod
erate increase in volume this week.
Individual orders were more numer
ous and embraced many different
lines of goods, out an outstanding
feature was the better and wider de
mand for fall cottons, while there
was a notable quickening of Interest
on the part of merchants In mer
chandise for next spring. Although
such forward business has not yet
apparently reached large proportions.
Aside from the call for fall and
spring lines, most of the current bus
iness is still of a filllng-in character
nr to replenish d<plettd stocks for
the next month or two, partlclarly
staple.*;. Specialties and mixed goods
wars again wall pstronlssd a> they
have been in recent weeks. In many
sections of the country retailers are
making special sales of various cot
ton fabrics, In some Instances at
prices far below curront replacement
costs. In primary markets, on the
other hand, prices of all finished cot
tons are firmly held, with. If any
thing, an upward tendency.
"In print cloths and gray goods,
trading was less active than last
week buyers as a rure showing a dis
position to operate cautiously or to
hold «. f f on account of the lower
trend of raw cotton early In the week
and the Immleuee of the government
crop report. Prices, also, were some
what easier on the basis of 9% cents
yard for 38V6-inch 64x60 print
cloths and 7*% cents for 86-Inch 4<»x
--10 sheetings. Second hands shaded
regular market prices slightly, hut
their offerings were rmlted and con
sisted of certain lines of gray goods
rather than print cloths. Mills, gen
erally, were unwilling to sell on con
tracts for deliveries very far ahead at
present prices."
