LOCAL WHOLESALERS RELIEVE IN AUGUSTA'S FUTURE
D. C. Goldstein & Company, Moving Into New Quarters, Preach ‘Trade in Augusta”
D. C. Goldstein & Company, one of the leading dry
goods and notions wholesale houses in the Southeast, are
very optimistic as to the outlook for this fall’s business.
This enterprising firm is preaching the gospel of “Trade
in Augusta” all over their territory and their activities in
this direction are believed to be bearing fruit. Gold
stein urges every retail and wholesale merchant in the
city to get on the band wagon in the same direction and
thereby put Augusta back in its place as a leading com
mercial center.
D. C. Goldstein & Company' have just moved from
their former stand at 964 Broad Street to larger and more
commodious quarters at 650 to 652 Broad Street. Their
new place, besides permitting the carrying of a larger and
more complete line of goods, which has become a neces
sity through the great expansion of their business, is also
more conveniently arranged and modemly fitted out.
They are now in position to handle their big volume of
trade with the utmost in service and Goldstein’s custom
ers are to profit by the change in quicker deliveries and
a wider range of goods from which to make their selec
tions.
The firm is composed of three live-wire business men:
D, C. Goldstein and Max Tunkle, both having made their
homes in Augusta for many years and being well known
all over this section. The third partner is I. E. Harkins,
who has been here for some time in connection with the
business. Mr. Harkins is a man of twelve to fifteen
years’ experience in the three phases of the dry goods
business: manufacturing, wholesale and retail. Mr.
Goldstein is in charge of the sales and of the business,
while Mr. Harkins is office executive. Mr. Tunkle is the
silent partner, having other prominent business connec
tions here. Mr. W. Wiltshire, head of the Auditing Dept.,
since the opening of business by this firm has aided ma
terially in the building of this successful firm, also Mr.
Adrian Cohen, another very valuable man, has been with
this firm for a long while. Both of these well known gen
tlemen will welcome their many friends in their new
quarters. All of them are old hands at the dry goods

game and have certainly made more than a go of it under
the present firm style of D. C. Goldstein & Company.
D. C. Goldstein & Company was established in 1920,
yet in four short years they have developed into a com
mercial power in Augusta and a concern known through
out the Southeast among the retail trade for their fair
dealing and prompt service in the matter of deliveries.
The contributions of the firm to the commercial life
of this city can better be gained by a visit to their estab
lishment and seeing the magnitude of their facilities for
doing business.
In speakng of the advantages in encouraging and
urging the people of southeastern territory to trade in
Augusta, a member of the firm said: “Trade in Augusta
is not a mere slogan or motto, it is an assimilation in
simple common-sense form of good advice. Why
Augusta is situated in the center of the richest section of
the South. She is on six railroads. She has a first-rate
cotton exchange. She is a manufacturing center for cot
ton goods. All these things work to the advantage of buy
ers in Augusta, because the railroads mean better deliv
eries; the cotton exchange means she is in touch with the
market of the product in which this section is most inter
ested ; the fact that Augusta is a cotton goods manufactur
ing center means a ready market for cotton and the facil
ity of procuring the products of Augusta’s mills with a
minimum of transportation expense. Augusta should be a
great trade center by every principle of reasoning and the
merchants, wholesale and retail, can make it just that by
constantly pulling together and continuously preaching:
‘Trade in Augusta!’”
Thin member of the concern added, relative to the prospect* for
3924 fall business: "With the price of cotton taking a healthy turn up
ward, the Indications of a fair crop and a generally better feeling among
the people,, there la no reason why Augusta should not boom this fall
I). C. Ooldsteln A, Company anticipate the biggest fall trade in the his
tory of the business and we are preparing to handle It.”
The territory covered by the concern embraces si* southern states
and they get the cream of the business. The office la run on a thorough
ly buslnss-llke plan, cautious In matters where cgutlon la necessary and
progressive in the main. Modern preachments of going forward with the
country are strictly followed and the firm ls profiting thereby on an
amassing reals.
Such a concern Is an asset of a distinct character to any city and
Augusta business circles would welcome additional firms of this calibre.
