Otis Skinner, World’s Greatest Character
Actor, to Appear in “Sancho Panza”
at Imperial Tuesday Night
Seats are now selling. The Theatrical event of the year.
"SANCHO PANZA.” the big
spectacular comedy in which Otis
Skinner will appear at the Im
perial Tuesday evening only, con
tradicts the mistaken Idea that a
costume piece cannot be funny.
There is more laughter, more wit
and humor in this drama of old
Spain than in many a modern farce.
Dapple, the donkey provides mo
ments of broad burlesque. And
besides the fantasy and foolery,
there is the , rich humor of Mr.
Skinner's characterization of the
always hungry goat-herd, Sancho,
who suddenly finds himself on a
throne.
For the play “Sancho Panza”,
written by Melchoir Lengyel, the
well-known Hungarian playwright.
Is based on certain episodes In Cer
vantes' “Don Quixote” that gold
mine of humor and romance, which
are exclusively concerned with the
tnerry adventures of the Don's
squire, Sancho. The period In the
“golden age of Spain” when hearta
and cqlors were gay and villain
truly wicked. And Russell Janney,
the producer, has made an elabor
ate presentation of this picturesque
era with costumes and scenery by
James Reynolds, designer for Zei
gfeld's “Follies.” There are dancca
arranged by Bert French of the
“Music Box Revue.” Hugo Felix
composer of “Pom Pom,” and "Las
sie,” and “Marjolalne," has written
special music. Richard Boleslaw
sky of the Moscow Theatre has
done the staging and grouping and
mass movement.
In support of Mr. Skinner is an
exceptional cast, including Mon
tague Rutherford. Henry V. Stern
royd, Robert Rosaire, Herbert Del
