or the TWINS
By Olive Roberta Barton
AWAY THEY ALL SWAM TO SEE IF THEY COULD CATCH
TWEEKANOSE AND GETT THE MAGIC SLEEPY SAND
When Tweekanose swam off with
the magic sand at the bottom of the
sen. the Sand Man and the Twins
and Captain Fennywlnkle, the fat
little fairy, and all the Wlggleflns
besides, were so surprised that no
body could move for a minute.
• Little owls - and batlets!” tbs
Sand Man started to say, but he
felt too bad to finsh.
•'ls that the rascal who has been
causing you all the trouble?" ask
ed Captain Pennywlnkle.
"Yes, It s,” answered the Twins.
"He doesn’t want the babies to go
to sleep. Ho likes to tease them
nnd that Is why he wantß to get the
sleepy sand from the Sand Man.
"Well, we shall have to catch
him," said Captain Pennywlnkle.
turning his sea-horse sharply to
give some commands to his Wlg
glefln people.
"Electric-light fishes, come here,"
he cried.
All the electrlc-llght fishes came
swimming up and really It was so
bright under the sea with so much
light 'n everything, that It looked
like a hundred automobile head
lights all coming at you at once.
"Go everywhere," commanded the
sea-captain fairy, "and light up all
tjie sea-caves, and sea-rocks, and
sea-weed forests, and sea-moun
tains, until there won’t be a single
dark place left for Tweekanose to
hide in. And tell everyone you
meet to keep his eyes open.”
"Aye, aye, sir!" said all the
obliging electrlc-llght fishes. *We
will go at once.”
Next the sea-captain fairy called
all the lobsters.
"Go to all parts of the sea,” he
commanded. "And If you see
Tweekanose, catch him by the toe
and send me word.”
"Aye, aye. sir!” said the lobsters
crawling off as fast as they could
*°Next Captain Pennywlnkle call
ed the whales.
"Go and pull up all the sea-trees
by the roots," he said, "and de
stroy all the hiding places In the
sea." . ,
"Aye, ay*, sir!” said the whales
wagglnr their tails and starting off.
Next he called the squids.
"Got your Ink-bottles along? 1 he
asked.
BY CONDO
1 “Right here, sir!” said all the
squids waving their arms.
"Then follow the whales and the
lobsters. If they catch Tweekanose.
spill your Ink in the water and make
it all black so he can’t get away.”
Next he called the horse-shoe crabs.
"Bring three good fast sea-horses,
all saddled and bridled and ready to
go," he said.
"Aye, aye. sir!” said the horse-shoe
crabs crawling away to the stable for
sea-horses.
By and by they came hack.
At Captain Pennywlnkle's order,
the Twins and the Sand Man Jumped
on the sea-horses.
The sea-horses uncurled their
funny tall* and flapped their little
fins (which looked like wings) and
away thev all iwam to see If they
could catch Tweekanose and get the
magic sleepy sand.
