CARDINAL HAYES EXPRESSES
HIMSELF ABOUT BOBBED
HAIR.
itt a recent church breakfast in
New York, at which Cardinal
ltayes was chief speaker, he spoke
on "The Influence and AVork of
Catholic Women in the World." In
the course of his serious address
the Cardinal turned aside for a mo
ment and speaking in a light vein,
said some things about bobbed
hair.
"Somebody asked me recently.
'What is your opinion of bobbed
hair?' ” remarked the Cardinal. "I
replied ‘I have no opinion on bob
bed hair so long as you don't ask
me to bob mine.’ But look what
happened to Samson when he had
his locks shorn. Samson's strength
was in his hair. That is an exam
ple. Yes, when Samson had his hair
bobbed he lost his strength because
his strength was in his hair?
Here the Cardinal paused.
"And, then, this same person ask
ed me: ‘What do you think of wo
men’s dress at present?”’ went on
the Cardinal. “I replied: ‘I don't
want to be quoted on bobbed hair
or on women’s dress, because I am
afraid if I say anything some wo
men may bob their hair all the
more and take of even more
clothes.’ ”
And here the Cardinal was silent
for a long time.
His opinions about bobbed hair
and too little clothing were express
ed in connection with remarks which
he made about the present-day girl
in general.
The Cardinal said everything to
day was becoming vulgarious and
that unconsciously "some find
themselves submitting to the ten
dencies of the game in letting down
the bars.”

GEORG I A-FUR MAN
DANCES AT AMERICAN
LEGION HALL
With hundreds of out-of-town
college boys in the city this week
end, Augusta is anticipating two of
the most enjoyable and most large
ly attended dances of this season,
when the Augusta Chapter, Order
of DeMolay entertains at The Am
erican Legion Hall Friday night
from 10 till 2 and Saturday night
from 9 till 12, the famous "Bulldog”
orchestra of the University of Geor
gia furnishing the music.
The fact that this renowed 8-
piece orchestra will play for these
dances is sufficient assurance that
every mother's son and daughter
will be there without fail. It was
decided sometime ago that the Am
erican Legion Hall (the old avmory)
was the only place in Augusta large
enough to accomodate the crowd
that it is expected will attend.
The Georgia and Furman foot
ball teams will arrive from Athens
and Greenville, respectively, on
Thursday, as will a number of ar
dent fans from both cities and for
this reason Friday night’s danre
will no doubt be as largely attend
ed as Saturday’s.
The Mothers of the DeMolay will
chaperone.
