VERDERY-SMART
Mr. and Mrs. William McMillan
James, of New York, have sent out
cards announcing the marriage of
their daughter, Mrs. Helen James
Smart, to Mr. Eugene Frances Ver
dery, October 17, in New York-City.
The marriage was a quiet one
and took place at the Marble Col
legiate church,( Fifth avenue, Rev.
Dr. Bolling officiating. Mrs. Ver
dery is a very lovely and charming

BEAUTIFUL PARTY
The Beginner’s of St. John's Sun
day school gave a beautiful Hal
lowe’en party and of all the affairs
of that time none was more beau
tiful or more enjoyable. The church
parlor was beautifully decorated
with orange cosmos and roses of
the same vivid orange hue. The re
freshments served the little tots
were also in the orange color and
the little guests in attendance all
wore Hallowe’en costumes . There
were eighty-five present and the
scene of the beautiful children in
their fanciful costumes in the gayly
decorated room, was one of incom
parable beauty.

CURTIS CHURCH OBSERVES
RALLY DAY WITH BEOUTIFUL
AND INSPIRING FEATURE.
Annual Rally Day was observed
Sunday at the Curtis Baptist
church, when beautiful and most
edifying pageant entitled “Out of
the Bible” was presented at the
regular morning service.
There were twenty-five people
taking part, coming out of a large
Bible, representing Bible characters
and costumed most becomingly to
portray the character represented.
Curtis church is to be congrat
ulated for the presentation of this
beautiful and instructice play. Much
praise is due each one taking part
and it is hoped by the great number
of people w r ho saw this -lay for
another quite as inspiring next
year.
Especial credit Is due Mrs. H. H.
Shiflet and Mrs. H. B. Taylor for
so officeintly training those taking
part.

Augusta friends of Mrs. John
Miller of Trenton, S. C., will be
grieved to learn of her death which
occurred yesterday. Mrs. Miller's
death Is particularly sad following
as it did so soon after the recent
death of her husband a few weeks
ago. Funeral services were held at
four this afternoon.
Mrs. Gene Owen’s friends will be
pleased to learn that she has been
moved from University Hospital to
her home on Telfair street.

gret to learn she is suffering from
a recent fall.

The improvement In the condition
of Mrs. Boykin Wright will be
learned of with pleasure by friends
who have been quite anxious. Mrs.
James Hillman, who has been with

Pittsburgh, Pa.

Mrs. Woodruff and Mrs. Swift,
of Columbus, mother and sister, of
Mr. Harry Woodruff, arrived Sat
urday to be at his bedside. The
many friends of the family regret
Mr. Woodruffs’ condition is un
changed, and anxiously await some
encouraging news. The entire com
munity has been inexpressibly sad
denover the terrible accident.—

Harlem on Monday afternoon.
Mrs. Ad Anderson will entertain
the T. E. L. class at the home of
Mrs. Amos Lucky on Wednesday
afternoon.
Mrs. Alvin Wilson Is at the Uni
versity Hospital for surgical treat
ment. At last reports she was do
ing nicely.
It is good news to hear that Miss
Eva Belle Ulm Is now improving
steadily after a recent operation.
