AUXILIARY PUMP ILL BEJSTALLED City Will be so Circum stanced That Future Freshets Cannot Cut Off Water Supply. . -r Mayor Dunbar stated this morning that virtually all the figures and facts concerning the erection of an auxili ary pulping station are In the hands of Commissioner Wingfield and bids will be advertised for by the city. The plan for the new pumping sta tion provides for a steam pump to supply water to the reservoir on the Hill in case anything happens to the regular pumping station. If high water should place the station out of order the steam pump could be start ed up without delay and there would be no time when water would not be forced into the reservoir. The new apparatus will cost gome $50,000 to $75,000, but will give the city one of the finest waterworks systems in the United States. It will be located alongside the present pumping sta tion, and will be under the supervis ion of the regular pumping station manager. When the contract is awarded work will commence on the plant at once. Just Exactly Right. “I have used Dr, King's New Life Pills for several years, and find them Just exactly right,” says Mr. A. A. WEDNESDAY. SEPT lb IROIMTOIMK Fi BRfAN 111 NORTHWEST ' Congressman Thos. W. Hardwick, said: "It has been decided to leave it entirely with the campaign mana gers of the counties as to whether their counties shall be stumped. The managers are on the ground and thev know whether it is advisable to agi tate the subject or not.” Mr. Hardwick has been asked to stump Chicago for Bryan and Kern and he thinks he will leave for tha north and west as soon as the state election is over. Speaking of the river situation, Mr. Hardwick said: “The United States government is not going to do any thing towards building a levee on the Savannah river. Not so much be cause it is the Savannah, but if they did build a levee here there would be requests from the whole country for them to build levees on the rivers in their section. This would mean an expense of hundreds of millions to start with, and millions yearly to keep the work up. The government has never, since the river improve ment has been up, paid out a cent for the building of levees. The state of Texas and th e city of Galveston paid for the sea wall there and the state will have to build a levee on the Sa vannah if it is built.” Mr. Hardwick will leave the city Wednesday afternoon for his home, where he will spend a few days bee for leaving for the’North.
