PEOPLE KICKING
OH WHILE
W. R. Owens of Dunbarton
Voices Protest Against
Short Time Allowed in
City by C. and W. C.
Schedules.
w. R Owens of Dumbarton, S. C.
a well known South Carolinian and
prominent man in his section of the
state is authority for the statement
that the people along that portion ot
the A. C. L. ate much out at the
present temporary schedule to Au
gusta and local merchants are taking
up his complaint and asking that it
he remedied.
October Is perhaps the busiest,
month in (lie whole year, as far as
the so-called country I fade Is con
cerned and if anything is allowed to
divert, that trade to other channels
it cannot lie recovered. And it is as
serted that thin is what is being don*-
along this portion of the A. <’. L.,
whleh Is legitimate and proper Au
gusta Irade territory.
»he complaints) of the residents
along this line is that the A. L.
train from Lone Star stops at Ron
litns in >l* an of coming on to Augusta
In the morning. It gets to if ihbln i
at about 9 a m. and there all Au
gusta passengers art- allowed to re
main until the <’. & W. C. tram comes
along about 11.30, a stop of two and
one half hour. This latter train
due to get Into Augusta shortly aftet
twelve, arrives usually, it Is stated
about on* p. m. The outgoing train
leaves at 2.05, whleh gives the people
from along that line about one hour
in Augusta to do all their trading, *>r
< Ist forces them to stay over night,
which few ar“ willing to do.
Mr. Owen: states that the people
lor whom he is speaking would like
the train from Lqpe Hlar, which takes
In practically all Augusno territory
there ;s to come on direct To Augus'a
and thus avoid that wait at Bobbins.
Tin- dislam-i Is only a lew miles
more —would mean only a lew more
shovels ol coal—and the crew could
lay over in re as well as It doss at.
Robbins. Tin- visitors would get her
about ten o'clock and Ihils permit a
lour hour shopping trip Instead of th*
one hour which is altogether imsatls
tactors and Inadequate. Mr Owens
says that lie s confident the bridge
over the Santee cannot be finished nv
the /lr«t of October as gl"en out and
that the present errangefmnt Idris fair
to obtain for so many weeks that, all
those who an- accustomed to come to
Angus 1 a to do their trading will lie
Induced to go elsewhere, as they want
11 longer lime to shop ‘than P’esea'
i.cheriuh- permits Even a later tram
out ot Augusta would help, but the
main grim ance is the long watt at
Robbins. •
