Not as much as one-tenth of an inch of rain has fallen at any government weather station throughout Georgia during the past week according to the official bulletin just issued. Th-: weather has been exceptionally favo rable, however, for picking cotton, gathering corn and cutting hay. No very warm days have been ex perienced and clear weather prevails in nearly all sections. The tempera ture has been below normal and the only counties that have had heavy rain in many -TV- art- Sunuer and Brooks. Around Augusta farmers have been exceptionally busy picking their cot ton and several of them declare that with a few more weeks of good weath er they vyiH complete farming opera tions for this year easily by the first of November. Mr. W. W. Ramsey, says that cotton will be very short in Burke and Rich mond counties and poking will be over much earlier than usual. From Columbia, Lincoln and McDuffl counties the sanu reports are true, hut it seems that Lincoln county has better crops than the others men tioned. Farmers arenow begining fall work in earnest and an exceptionally large acreage will be put in oats and other winter growing crops. However, oats will predominate and 'litre Is now a good demand for the seed Rye and wheat together with barley will also be more extensively planted than heretofore, owing 10 the high price of grain. In Augusta ruin is badly needed, but just now there are no prospects f>r i shower and it nll probably be several days before rain comes. HERALD WANT ADS. Read for Profit-Use for Results. Augusta. COLORED FOLKS HIBDJT WORK Are Proceeding Cautiously in Giving Out Cash To Flood Victims. It must not be supposed that the colored committee is asleep, because daily reports are not being made as their work. They are still keeping m daily touch with the Associated Charities, and are rendering assis tance in the matter of appropriating the special fund for perrcamnent re lief placed in Mr. Rowland's hands last Saturday by the General Relief and Advisory committeee. The color ed men submitted a list of those who had applied for help to the head of the Associated Charities, and those cases are being investigated as rapid ly as possible. In three cases, at least decisions have been reached and amounts donated. Others will be passed upon today and checks given tomorrow or next day. Rev. C. T. Walker was present this morning at the meeting of the Gen eral Committee and made his usual report, including a small amount of money received for the flood sufferers Dr. G. N. Stonev, H. C. Young, P. H. Craig, and Charlie Tillman are all still active members of the committee. But though the committee is still at work, most of the work is being look id after by the secretary of tho colored committee. Rev. Silas X Floyd who has dally conferences with Mias Thompson, Mr. Rowland's efficient representative in the Montgomery building, and he makes reports to her and receives from her information as to what disposition has been made of the cases reported. The Associated Charities is moving with caution in the matter of distributing cash uonations. and is striving to use the money appropriated, economically and also where it will do the most good. As the help now being given Is in cash, it is necessary 'hat extreme caution should be exercised in order l hat no imposter receive benefits that ought to go to others more worthy. Prof. I'. H. Craig, P inripal of Nellieville School, rendered good ser vice the last of the past week in giving aid to the sufferers out in the Frazierville district just beyond his school. But for his help, many a poor colored man and woman would be hungiy today and without prope." matiresses, etc. Any colored people who suffered terrible losses during the flood —who f.-r example, lost all househo d goods or all working materials, etc , or who lost all their stock In trale, are ask td to report such cares to Rev. C. T Walker, Rev. Silas X.
