This means LUCKY EARL MAY ID MISS MILLS LONDON. —Everyone here expects very soon the announcement of the engagement of tl>< Earl of Granard to Miss Beatrice Mills. Lord Granard Is very poor, hut ho is a serious-minded young man with political aspirations, and by a se quence of remarkably lucky episodes he holds the high position of Master of Horse at King Edward's Court. This, of course, is a Government po sition, and Granard succeeded to it when ihe Earl of Seften quarreled with the Liberal party last year. Granard was a captain in the Guards three years ago, when the late Premier. Campbell-Bannerman, was forming his government and was at his wits' end to find among the few ltadical peers men eligible for the posts at Court that mum be giv en to the House of Lords. Grunard’s brother officers, knowing his radical sympathies, thought they would have a Joke with him by writing to Camp bell-Bannerman asking for a Govern ment post. To their intense surprise Granard got a letter from the Premier asklnv him to call. He went, wondering what, on earth was the matter, and was offered the post of Master of the Horse. I that the disease, which the world will i yet successfully combat, goes back -to some of the earliest of human I records nnd from archeological evl dence is probably as old as mankind I itself. But the future holds out promise, j' Thls disease," said Dr. Koch, "comes down to us from the centuries, but we have found the way to fight it. jWe are organized to fight ft because [of our better knowledge of It, a knowledge that Is growing world - wide and In the end we will conquer 'it. 1 mean it with all sincerity."
