DR. S. G. DURBAN
HAS PASSED AWAY
One of Georgia’s Most
Noted Pharmacists and
Well Known Augustan
Died Sunday Morning.
The annourieehiet is made ot the
J death of Dr Sebn*tian C. Durban, a
! well known and highly esteemed drug
’glHt of Augusta, at his home No. 1255
| Kills sireet, Sunday morning at 7.30
o’clock.
Pr. Durban's death was caused by
‘nervous prostration and he had been
jin ill-heath for (he last six months.
Hi spent the summer at Old Point
j Comfort, Vu . in hopes of getting in
better health, but as he did not im
prove he returned home about two
weeks ago ami had been sinking
steadily until Sunday, when he pass,
ed away, surrounded by his family
ami intimate friends.
Dr Durban was born at Beaufort.
S. C. about t'.ti years ago and when
the war broke .out. he served three
'years In the Palmetto Guard of Char
leston,
Dr. Durhan's first wife was Miss
Mary plumb the daughter of the late
Dr W. 11 Plumb of this city. Four
sons ami two daughters were the Is
lie and they ar< •leasts. D P. and
C. S, Durban of Birmingham, Ala and
George Durban are the surviving sons
j Misses Ruth and Ceclle Durban of
| this city are the daughters. Mrs.
i Durban died in 1 S f *2. Pr Durban mar
! rled Miss Willie Turner In 1897 and
; one son Turner Durban Is the result
of this union.
Dr Durban rnme to Augusta In
1872 ard began to work for the drug
i firm of Plumb and Kellner. The husl
j ness was purchased by the late Major
H H Alexander nnd after his death

Pr Puritan was ehosen a member
of the state board of pharmacy in
1892 and was afterwards made chalr-

also a member of the State Pharma

Dr Durban was a devout member of
. Sacred Heart church 'and a member
lof the Knlglit* of Columbus,

recorder's court Monday morulrg.
Fourteen violaters of tho !60'h sec.
tion were convicted and given $2.50
or 5 days.
Steve Simmon*, a negro was given
SIOO or 00 days for going into a wo
man's house and spilling whiskey on
the floor.
Ella Bake, a white woman about 50
years old was given SIOO or 90 days
for loitering. She claimed that she
was on her way home and lost, the
way. The officer stated that he found
her in the territory about 3 o'clock
Sunday morning and she was drink
ing.
H: L. Young, a white man was
charged with violating the loitering
ordinance and when he was searched
a pair of brass knucks were found
conrealed.
The city case was dismissed, but
he was bound over to the city court
for carrying a concealed weapon.
Frank Martin and Willie Permit
tent were each given SIOO or 90 days
for loitering.
Mack Terry pleaded guilty of lar
ceny from the house on two counts.
He was bound over to the city court,
under a bond of $l5O.
