ASK YOCR neighbors The Lady and tjie Trolley Car A CURRENT STORY It was Sunday evening and on a Summerville car outward bound. The ' shades of night were falling fast and a large crowd packed and jammed the platform and aisle. One of the old est and most careful conductors on I the road was In charge, but he had a hard time handling Ihe situation j properly. At Fifteenth | street a part of the crowd, including three ladies, left the car and consequently it was standing still tor a period of fully'half a min- ! ute. Despite this fact just as the car had made a good start a laxly occupy ing a comfortable seat sudiltuily arose and signaled the conductor to stop the car. He did so, calling out the station. ■‘lndeed, sir," said the lady, "I wiil not get off here. I wanted to stop back yonder and as I have more time than money I'll just stay on here till the car comes back there." Her tone was forbidding. The con ductor did not dare lo reply and there was nothing else to do but go on. It was just about the time that the elec tric current has been in the habit of going off tor an hour or so and two gentlemen nearby, perhaps with mal ice aforethought, commenced discuss ing it. "It’s just about time for the current ; to go off," said one. "Yes." replied the other: "I doubt if we'll get to the top of the hill be 'fore the car stops." The lady was visibly affected. She [ moved easily in her seat and her ex presslon rhanged t 0 one of anxiety. The two men continued their conver "sation. I guess when it goes off we'll be stuck for a hour at least.” said one. “Reckon so,” said the other. "Hold on conductor, stop this car." fairly screamed the lady, "I want to get off here, quick." The men rode on. The car service was never better, but the lady pas senger decided it was best to take no chances. LETTER TO BRYAN LAWRENCE. Auqusta. Ga. Dear Sir: Suppose you are buying 25 gallons skim milk a day of a neign bor t feed to hogs for $1.75; 7c a gallon, a fairly close price. ts he wants more money and you won't pay it he can put-in 1-4 water and get for his milk 9e a gallon—not worth while to cheat for 2c. If he putn-in 1-3 water, he gets for his milk lOr a gallon—that’s better. If he puts-in- 1-2 water, he gets for his milk 14c a gallon—good price. If he puts-ln 2-3 water, he gets for his milk 21c a gallon—Counts-up. If he puts-in 3-4 water, he gets for his milk 28c a gallon—that’s business, so long as the hogs will stand It. Which will he do? There are over 200 paint-manufac turers in the United States, making paint in all those ways from pure to 3-4 whitewash; 8 make it pure; 200 put-in front 1-4 to 3-4 whiting, china clay, ground stone, barytes, benzine, nnd water. They get whatever they like for their "paint”—it's all railed "paint." Skint milk isn't any too good for hogs; let 'em take their water sep arate. Paint takes care of your prop erty; keeps it dry: better put it on strong, not diluted with whitewash. Devoe is the strongest there is: least gallons to huv and brush-on: least money for both: least cost: wears longes; because It's the strongest. Yours truly IH F W DEVOE & ro.
