Carolina Chemical 33 NEW COMET FOUND NEAR POLAR STAR LONDON. —A bright, telescopic comet, with a fan-shaped tail, has just been discovered, and will be an ob ject of considerable Interest, during the next few weeks. It Is situated In the northern sky and about twenty de gress from the Polar star, the rough position for September 8 being right ascension 45 degrees north, declina tion 70 degrees. The comet Is mov ing to northwest at the rato of one degree dally. Astronomers have not yet calcu lated the orbit of the comet, so that it is not known whether the object is really approaching the earth or re ceding from ns. If this mysterious stranger is directing its (light toward us we may see it make a fine display during the moonless nights of this month, when moonlight will not In terfere with observations. luring the ensuing month or two 11 will pass through the region lying between the Polar star and the con stellations Cassiopeia and Cepheus. Astronomers all Ihe world over will heartily welcome the new visitor, as the present year has been somewhat, barren as regards conietary discov eries. Delegates come from the 45 foreign stations of the Amer ican St a men's Friends society, as well as from similar organizations of Great Britain and other nations.
