Water Work* Notice.
THE PUBLIC IS REQUESTED TO
be very careftil to leave all hydrants
and other openings closed to avoid
any waste of water. We have found
many cases, where parties will
leave hydrants open, presumably to
be certain to know when the water
is turned on. This causes a great
waste which must be stopped

An Institution Augusta Is Proud of
The boy!
Who Is It that dares to say he is
not the most important person in
the household, therefore in the town
and consequently In the nation?
Possibly because bis wants are not
as picturesque, as one may sav, as
those of his sister, the hoy is not as
perfectly considered in some respects
as Is the falryliffe creature of frills
and furbelows. Occasionally, how
ever, there are those who do remem
ber that the boy must be considered
as carefully in the matter of clothes
as in those seemingly graver ques
tions of health and edugation. Among
those who have given Sm the grav
est consideration are L. Sylvester
and Sons, who have so equipped
their beautiful and altogether satis
factory store as to be able to truth
fully say to the mothers and fathers
anxiously questioning what their
boys shall wear, "Come to us, and
we will see to It that your boy se
cures everything that is most ap
proved by fashion and common
sense."
How well they are able to sub
stantially back up this verbal prom
ise one quickly realizes after even
the most cursory view of the splen
did stock of Sylvester’s. Boys of
every age can here secure a com
plete outfit, barring shoes, and can
have the comfortable feeling that
from head to foot they are dressed
in perfect taste, in the height ot the
mode and In materials that will
?tand the test of time and wear.
It is not making too bold an as
sertlon to say that never before has
there been seen In Augusta so com
plete and perfect a stock of gar
ments for the very small boy who

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 8.
WANTS
M
must still wear a Russian blouse or
a tailor suit. These little suits are
from the best known manufacturers
in this country, and have a style and
finish not to be equalled. Especial
ly desirable are the little sailor suits
having top coats to match, and posi
tively irresistible tor full dress are
the dainty hand-embroidered suits of
white serge. The hats are as up-to
date as the suits and coats, and are
to be had in an infinite variety of
styles suitable tor every age from the
cradle up. There are also all kinds
of underwear, and gloves in even the
very smallest sizes. It is dtflcult to
belier'e, in looking at all the inviting
array, that one Is not In some great
New York establishment where the
purchaser may secure at a moment's
notice what Fifth avenue most ap
proves. And indeed much that is
seen here does come from the manu
factures that supply these things for
such places In New York as bear
names to conjure with. The fact
that they are brought to Augusta In,
so complete an assortment shows a
faith In our city and an enterprise
on the part of this highly esteemed
firm that is immeasurably gratifying
to all Augusta, as is the news that
to Sylvester has been given the or
der for all the Academy uniforms
this year.
But it is not for boys alone that
L. Sylvester and Sons carry on their
gratlfylngly successful business.
What Sam Pecks and company are
doing for fheir customers among the
young men and boys Alfred Benja
min is doing for their mature cus
tomers of all ages. The splendid
workmanship characterizing the suits
turned out by these makers has
never before been seen to such ad
vantage as is now possible with the
elaborate new system of coat-hang
ing adopted at Slyvester’s, a system
that shows off the clothes to conven
ience and advantage and that pre
vents their being mussed or tumbled
by handling.
Another attractive feature of the
store of many attractions Is the long
line of show cases in which are dis
played all the latest conceits in the
way of haberdashery for men and
where are seen to pleasing effect
silk socks, handkerchiefs and ties
brought out to match perfectly in
shade and tone.

It Is Probable That Some
Filtered Water Will Be
Sent Down to City Friday
Thusday morning at 8 o’clock the
second big pump at the pumping sta
tion was started to work and during
the day almost half a million gallons
of water per hour has been sent up to
the reservoir on the hill. Water is
being sent direct to the clear water
basin from one pump and the big
basin is being washed out by the other
pump.
The arangement at the filter station
is so complete that different sections
of It can be operated Independently.
Water can be sent direct from rtte
pumps to the filter tanks, pumped into
the clear water basin, or sent Into the
main basin. This enables the city to
wash out the big basin and at the
same time accumulate a big supply of
water in the clear water basin.
It is certain that water will be
turned on to the city some time Fri
day, and after It is once started there
wiil be no more trouble. It was first
thought that unaltered water would
be sent down for a temporary supply,
but it was deemed advisable to give
pure water from the start and hence
no water was turned on Thursday
from the filter station.
The capacity of the pumps now In
operation approximate 12,000,000 gal
lons dally and It will only be a short
time before enough water accumu
lates to fill the basin, which holds
about 60,000,000 gallons. As the situ
ation now stands several million gal
lons are stored In the clear water
basin so as to protect the city from
fires.
Fill your bins now mth OUnchfleld
Coal and you will fro Independent
when the mercury drops. Order from
your dealer or direct of the Clinch
field Coal Corporation, Charlotte,
