MACON WANTS THE
STATE FAIR AGAIN
The Directors Came to a
Decision Wednesday and
Will Ask Aid of the As
sociation.
MACON, Ga. —At a meeting of the
directors of the Georgia State Ag
ricultural society and the directors of
the Macon state fair association held
here Wednesday afternoon it was de
cided to have another fair in Macon
in the fall of 1909, and the state or
ganization was formally asked to
help.
It was decided to hold the fair
from October 26 to Nov. 5, practical
ly the same dates as the fair of this
year. Pres. Conner of the Agricul
tural society wits present and will an
swer the Macon men after the execu
tive committee has held a meeting.
During the session Wednesday T.
.1. Carling of Macon, asked that, when
the dates were selected care be taken
so that they would not conflict with
the dates of the annual meetings of
the Grand Lodge of Masons here. The
dates selected by the fair will hard
ly interfere as the opening day is the
last day of the Masonic sessions.
The fair held here this year was a
success from every point of view and
the association now has some money
on hand. Wednesday It was decided
to employ some of the money that is
now in the treasury to relieve Pres.
Ben. L. Jones of the bond upon which
he now stands as president. This
bond had to he given during Novem
ber as the athletic associations of
Georgia and Mercer entered suit
against the fair directors, which case
is still pending in the superior court
here.

MACON DEALERS
WANT LICENSES
Near Beer Saloons Must
Have Licenses or Close up
Until They Get Them.
MACON, Ga. —Applications for
near-beer licenses are pouring into
the city hall rapidly, but it is ex
ceedingly likely that some of the
dealers will be left in the cold be
tween January 1 and next Wednesday
Council does not meet again until
next Tuesday night and as there are
IS or more dealers without licenses
and no chance of getting them before
January C. it will probably mean that
they will have to close up shop.
Some time ago the city council
gave out duo notice that all appli
cations would have to be passed up
on before the licenses would be is
sued. It happened that several ap
plications have just been made, but
nothing can be done till next week.
Friday is the year end and it is
believed that unless a special sessiou
of city council is held these dealers
will be compelled to keep closed doors
; Should this happen such proprietors
will lose money and there will, no
: doubt, contest the city's right to close
I them up.
