The table decorations were artistic
in their combination of cyclamen and
fern, the centerpiece a plateau of red
cyclamen edged with fern, and the
silver candlesticks having their
shades of red under silver filigree.
Silver baskets and compotes held red
bonbons, and the accessory decora
tions expressed that color.
Mrs. Little wore a becoming toilet
in black net embroidered in jet se
quins, and trimmed in cabishons in
sapphire tints.
Miss Duncan was lovely in a dinner
gown of white olga crepe, the short
waisted corsage embroidered in pearls
and trinomial in point applique lace.—

MRS. BEST’S LUNCHEON
FOR MRS. BROWN.
Among the pleasant social atten
tions for Mrs. Joseph M. Brown was
the luncheon at Le Bon Air today
given by Mrs. Austin Best, when she
entertained twelve. There was a
charmingly congenial group of guests
present and the event was one of the
most delightful of the week. The
table was very lovely with its decor
ations of daffodils with their sugges
tions of the coming spring. A large
cut glass vase in the center was fill
ed with a mass of these golden blos
soms and the place cards, which were
also daffodils, formed a slender
wreath of gold about the prettily ap
pointed table.
Mrs. Best’s guests were: Mrs.
Brown, Mrs. Kilpatrick, Mrs. W. C.
Boykin, Mrs. Carlton Hillyer, Mrs.
Mareen Duvall, Mrs. R. B. Heath, Mrs.

honor guest at a small but very de
lightful gathering of her friends yes-1

R. B. Heath was the lucky recipient i
of the high score prize, a loveiy veil
pin of blue enamel; the consolation
was cut by Mrs. T. K. Scott, who was i

antique cameo belt pin as a souvenir!
of the afternoon. After the game a
delightful bird supper was served.

MISS BANKS.
Miss Marie Tuscany, of Atlanta,
Miss Bessie Fry's guest, and Miss
Kate Banks, of Atlanta, who has
been the guest of her aunt, Mrs. Nor
man Shelverton, for the past few
weeks, were complimented by Mrs.
Shelverton with a most enjoyable
bridge party yesterday afternoon at
which were present Misses Mary Lou
and E-la J. Fuller, Miss Bessie Fry,
Miss Ida Woodward, Miss Alice Mc-
Govern, Miss Virginia Anderson, Miss
Marian Martin, Miss Bessie Wilson,
Miss Virginia Dugas and Miss Annie
Ellis.
Miss Virginia Anderson secured the
high score prize, a dainty little chaf
ing dish apron, and the consolation,
a pretty sewing bag, was presented
to Miss Marlp Tuscany, who selected
the lucky clover lear with which the
consolation was awarded. The par
lors were most attractive in their dec
orations of house plants and Xmas
bells, and the game was scored on
crimson Xmas bells.

Miss Bessie McDaniel entertained
a congenial party of young people on
Wednesday evening at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo ranklin, the
guests of honor being the Misses Grif
fin, of. Robbins, S. C. After the en
joyment a number of fascinating pas
times refreshments were served.
Those who enjoyed this delightful

DINNER PARTY FOR
JUDGE AND MRS. TAFT.
Of the many attentions that have
been accorded Judge and Mrs. Taft
there has been nothing that has been
more beautiful or enjoyable than the
dinner party last evening of which
Mrs. Charles Phinizy and Mr.
Bowdre Phinizy were the hosts. The
house was very lovely' with growing
plants, pink and white azalias and
hyacinths and great masses of violets
The dining table had for its central
adornment a superb mass of long
stemmed bride roses placed in an
antique silver vase. The boutonnieres
for the men were valley lilies and
the women corsage bouquets of frag
rant violets. The radiance from the
softly shaded light, the beauty of
the gowns worn by the women, the
brilliant and sparkling conversation
that flowed and the ready wit for
which the congenial group of guests
are famed, made the evening one of
thorough pleasure and one that will
long linger as one of the pleasantest
social events of the winter season.
R. E. LEE CHAPTER MEET.
The children of the Confederacy
had their regular monthly meeting
at their hall In the Court house yes
terday afternoon. Several interest
ing papers, containing incidents in
the lives of famous Confederate gen
erals, were read; three names were
proposed for membership.
Miss Ada Ramp, an active member
of the D. of C. has offered a medal to
that member of the C. of D. writing
the best essay on "The Southern Wo
man of the Sixties;’’ the length of
the essay Is unlimited, and the time
expires June 16th. It is hoped and
expected that there will be a number
of competitors.

ENTERTAINS.
Mrs. W. A. Mulherin will entertain
ed her card club and other friends
on Tuesday afternoon of next week.
On Wednesday Mrs. Mulherin will
again entertain a party of friends,
the guesis being from the debutanto

A pleasantly anticipated event of
this evening will be the dance at
Walker’s which will be given
in honor of Miss Sarah Parks, of

Formal announcement is made of
the engagement of Miss Annie Rice
and Mr. P. J. Coffey, of Savannah
the marriage to take place on Tues
day next, at noon at the Sacred
Heart church. No cards will be sent
out and the marriage will be attended
by the family connections and a few
near friends only.

hospital for surgical treatment.

his room at Mrs. Hamilton Wilkins
by illness. He is now slightly better
but will not be ablo to be out before
Monday.
—Edward Elliott, a handsome
young boy, came to the home of Mr.
and Mrs. J. R. Rees at 1750 Hicks
street, this morning, where he re
ceived a cordial welcome and will re
main a member of the happy home.
