wick monument committee, which will
put a statue over the grave of the
Father of Baseball in Greenwood com
etery, President Ebhetts, of tho
1 Brooklyn club, has received from
President Murphy, of the Chicago
club, a check for SIOO to be devot
ed to this purpose. Mr. Murphy also
turned over to Mr. Ebhetts $37.72,
being the amount collected from the
Chicago fans for this worthy cause.
A Brooklyn newspaper has SIOO for
the fund, and the national associa
tion about. $l5O. The National league
will make up the balance of the
amount needed. Mr. Ebhetts thinks
the monument wll be put over the
grave next spring.”

caused James J. Jeffries to turn his
attention to getting money and bt
has accepted an offer of $2,000 tor
one week’s theatrical work, the Wigl
- theatre of this city being ths
playhouse that placed this proposition
before the retired heavyweight cham
pion, says Ralph Pincus, who sent
the offer to Jeffries at Los Angeles.
“All we want Jeffriss to do,” said
Pincus, “is to speak a little piece at
each performance and spar s few
short rounds with a partner of bis
own choosing.”
Jeffries has sent word that he
