All expenses of every character for a thoroughly enjoyable tour will be paid by The Augusta
Herald from the moment the party leaves Augusta until their return to Augusta,some six weeks later
Not a “Popularity” Or “Beauty” Contest
Division of Districts
District Number One: All that section of Augusta lying west
of East Boundary St., u cast of renter of Sixth St., and fiorn
the River south to renter of South Boundary St.
District Number Two: All that section of Augusta lying
weal of renter of Sixth St. to cost of renter of Twelfth St., and
from the River south to renter of South Boundary St.
District Number Three: All that section of Augusta lying
west of the center of Twelfth SI. to caul of the renter of Fifteenth
SI., and from the River south to center of Gwinnett St.
District Number Four: All that section of Augusta lying west
of the renter of Fifteenth St. to High St. and from the River to
Walton Way, also Including North Augusta.
District Number Five: All that section of Augusta lying
south of renter of r.wlnnctt St. and South Boundary Sts. from
Summerville line to East Boundary St., Including West Vale and
Harrlsonvllle.
District Number Six Summerville, Monle Sano and all of
Richmond County outside clly of Augusta.
Georgia State
Districts
District Number Seven: The countle B of Columbia, Lincoln
and Wilkes.
District Number Right: The counties of Mu Duffle, Warren,
Taliaferro, Greene and Glascock.
District Number Nine: The counties of Hancock, Washington
ltd Jefferson.
District Number Ten: The counties of Burke, Jenkins and
Screven,
District Number Eleven: The counties of Bullock, Emanuel
nnd Johnson.
South Carolina
Districts
District Number Twelve: The counties of Greenwood Edge
field and Saluda.
District Number Thirteen: The counties of Aiken and Barn
well.
District Number Fourteen. The counties of Bamberg Or
angeburg and I-extngton.
The chaperone will he the fifteenth member of the party.

Rules and Conditions
Read These Carefully
Any woman, white, of good character residing within the limits of
the prescribed district taken in by The Herald, between the ages of fif
teen and fifty years, may become a candidate.
A membership in .the tour will be awarded to the contestant in each
district who receives the greatest number of votes for her district.
The balloting will be by means of the nomination and single ballots
clipped from the issues of The Augusta Evening Herald, and by special
ballots issued on subscription payments from either old or new subscrib
ers to The Augusta Evening Herald, Daily or Sunday, or both, according
to the accompanying schedule of votes.
No special ballot will be issued for a less payment than a dollar.
Combinations between any contestants is prohibited.
The Contest Manager of The Augusta Herald, in making this of
fer, reserves the rights to reject any contestant, and also at any
time during the contest, to judgment upon any questions that
may arise.
Votes once cast cannot be changed to count for another contestant.
Candidates must be entered from the district in which they reside,
and cannot move from one district to another and retain the votes to their
credit in the former district.
Candidates may go anywhere in the wide world for votes.
Candidates compete only against the candidates living in the same
district as themselves.
Memberships in the Tour are transferable to any party acceptable
to The Augusta Herald, providing notice in writing is given The Herald
at least three weeks before date of sailing of the tour.
The Contest Manager reserves the right to withdraw the tour and
combine any district having only one candidate actively competing, or for
any other good and sufficient reason.
In the event of a tie between two or more candidates in the same
district prizes of equal value will be given.
The returns at the closing of the contest will he canvassed by a
committee of well known business and professional men.
No special ballot will be issued unless the cash accompanies the
subscription order.
No employe of The Augusta Herald or member of his or her im
mediate family-may become a contestant.
Further details of the contest announced from time to time.
No promises or agreements, either written or verbal, made by
agents, solicitors or canvassers beyond those published in The Augusta
Herald, will be recognized.
Contest to optju Monday, February 27th, and close Monday, May Ist,
at 9p. m. #
How the Selections Will Be Made
In order to equalize the competition, the territory of The Herald has
been divided into (14) districts, and the woman receiving the largest
number of votes from each district will be our guest ou the Grand
European Tour with all expenses fully paid.
For The Boys and Girls
Ten Dollars In Gold w'll be paid to any boy or girl in Augusta and
Ten Dollars in Gold to any boy or girl outside of Augusta, under Fifteen
years of ago. who casts the greatest number of clipped newspaper ballots
for any European Tour Contestant. Votes polled by boys or girls should
bear their name and address in proper place on newspaper ballot. ,
Contest for Gold Pieces closes Saturday, March ISth at 4 p. m.
How To Nominate
Nomination can fee made by clipping out the Nomination and
Voting Ballot appearing on another page of this section, filling in
the name of the party whose nomination is desired, her address
and the number of the district in which she resides. It is not ne
cessary to be a subscriber to The Herald in order to be a candi
date.
As soon as your nomination lias been received and passed upon
by The Herald a Subscription Order Book and full information
necessary to start your campaign will be mailed to you.
Electing Your Own Chaperon
For the European Trip
You can win a membership in the Tour and take your mother,
sister, daughter or friend as your companion or chaperon—FßEE
Each candidate is permitted to nominate a chaperon candidate.
The chaperon candidate it ho receives the largest number of
votes of all chaperon candidates will he sent free on the Tour.
Every subscription ballot is good for its full face value for a
district candidate and is also good for one -half as many votes as
its face value for tne district candidate’s chaperon.
Chaperon candidates may secure subscription books and take
subscription payments. In this case the chaperon will receive full
face value of voting certificates and her principal one-half.
Candidates are urged to appoint their chaperon candidates early
and both work together to secure the two trips.
No two district candidates may have or vote for shme chaperon
candidates, or vice-versa. .
If first chaperon candidate withdraws, district candidate may
nominate another to take her place and give her nominee votes be
longing to first chaperon nominee.
A New Subscription
A New Subscriber is a person or firm that was not getting the
paper by the week, month or year, when the contest started from
the regular carrier boys, or by mail.
An Old Subscriber is a person who is or was getting the paper
and paying the boy by the week, every two weeks, month or
year, or by mail, when the contest started.
Some Exceptions.
If a person has taken The Herald and stopped getting It regu
larly one day before Februa-y 26, then subscribes and pays in ad
vance one dollar or more duriig the contest—they are new sub
scribers.
When Two Papers are ordered to the same address, even though
it is a different name, the subscription is classed as old, unless the
party subscribing is a hparder or roomer at the place and not a
member of the family to which the paper is delivered regularly.
Two Papers Will Be deliver’d at the same place only when
both are paid in adavnee for ten weeks or longer. This does not
apply in the case of a boarder or roomer subscribing.
A Change of Address will count as new subscription, as in the
case of a business man having the paper delivered at his resi
dence and desiring to have another copy come to his place of busi
ness if the paper is not discontinued at the old address.
A Subscriber Who Is New When the First Payment Is Made
During the Contest Will Be Considered New on Any Subsequent
Payments.
