CATHOLIC BISHOPS
Will Be Change In Methods.
“In Fee Simple” Abolished
For N. Y. Plan of Church
Holdings.
Kansas City—Property of the Cath
olic church is no longer to he vested
in the bishops of the various dioceses
In the United States, according to a
ruling just received by Bishop Thomas
F. Lillis, of Kansas City from Mon
signor Falconio, the apostolic dele
gate.
The term "in fee simple" is to he
abolished and parish corporations on
the plan of the New York diocese are.
to be formed wherever the. law of the
state permits. Where it does not the
stylß of tenure known as
sole" is to be adopted.
Bishop Lillis said that the laws of
Missouri and Kansas did not permit
of any such arrangement but that an
effort would be made to secure legis
lation in the two states that would al
low- the incorporation of such prop
erty.
Under the present method a bishop
can have no private estate. Whatever
is in his name is the property of the
church. If he dies without a will, ev
trything he owns, even his private
bank account, goes to the church.
