Praise Work of U. S.

whole British empire be entered in the

The Times is convinced that the
Olympic authorities would admit all
the corr, petiflora of the empire as a

pondent of the Times, referring to the
controversy arising out of England’s
poor showing, pays a warm tribute to
tile American’ wonderful organization
and discipline, and adds:
“Their tactics, of course, have been
legitimate under the rules except for
an occasional Indiscretion resulting j

ILLS KNOCKS OUT
KENNEDYJN BTH.
English Heavyweight Wins
Fast Bout In N. Y, Quickest
Fight In Years.
Now York.—The Englishman, Wells,
knocked out Joe Ken&sdy hgve last
night in the eight round of a scheduled
ten-round bout. A large crowd wit
nessed the fight. The knockout came
as the eoulmination of the fastest fight
seen here since the days of the Horton
law. The deciding blow was a right
smash to the jaw which sent Ken
nedy down, his head hanging over the
lower rope. The referee counted Ken
nedy out and his seconds carried him
to his corner. Once before In the round
Kennedy had gone down for a count of
nine when Wells hooked his left to
the face and sent his right to the Jaw.
Wells was by far the quicker
throughout the fight, which was sched
uled to go ten rounds, and his idea of
distance was excellent. The English
man forced the pace from the begin
ning and worked so hard he was visibly
tired before the fight was half over.,
Kennedy, In some of the rounds, ac
cepted enough punishment to knock
out an ordinary man, but he stuck to
his work. Although he was outclassed
and outboxed all the way, he made a
plucky fight. Wells, while he cut his
man up, with a rain of blows, was un
able to get Kennedy under control un
til the middle of the eighth round.
Both men turned the scale at 191 1-1
pounds before entering the ring anil
both were in perfect condition.
