was captured near the scene of the
hold-up, gave his name as John Jones
and said he lived in Atlanta. The
police, however, claim that his name
is James Nolan, of Des Moines, lowa,
and insist that if he did not actually
rob the passengers, he played a prom
inent part in the hold-up.
Jones, or Nolan, was captured near
Bolton, Ga., at which place the bandit
left the train after engaging in a
pistol duel with Carl C, Heard, county
policeman, who was a passenger and
who was slightly wounded during the
encountej. The man when arrested
told the police that he was a carpen

of work. He claimed to know noth

property taken from the passengers
was found in his possession. He was
locked up as a suspect.

Georgia Man is Held
Under Serious Charge
Fisher, Alleged Minister, is
Accused of Eloping With
Another’s Wife.
Philadelphia.—A remarkable tale
was told today by Mrs. J. A. Weisgar
ber, sister of Mrs. John Gentry, the
wife of a farmer of Clementon, N. J.,
who eloped with William H. Fisher,
25 years old, of Waycross, Ga., sev
eral months ago. They were parted
last night when Fisher was arrested
at 124 South Eleventh Street, where
he had been living with Mrs. Gentry.
The events which led up to the
elopement, according to Mrs. Wejs
garber, began in October, 1912, when
Fisher, who also was known as Hatch,
went to the Gentry farm and applied
for a job. He said he was a minister,
and he received employment as a
farm hand.
“Fisher immediately fell in lovd
with my sister,” said Mrs. Weisgar
her, “and some time later, Mr. Gentry
became violently ill after drinking a
cup of coffee. When he drank the
coffee, he said, “This tastes bitter.
What’s in it?”
“During his illness Mr. Gentry
acted very queerly, and his wife had
him committed to the insane asylum
at Blackwood for eight weeks. This
was on Octiber 11, 1912. While he
was there my sister and Fisher sold
out all the household goods and fur
niture for S3OO and on October 29th
they slipped out. They took my sis
ter’s two children with them.”
Fisher is being held as a fugitive
from New Smyrna, Fla., where he is
wanted on the charge of passing a
forged check for $185.65. The police
have received no word from Mr. Gen
try as to whether he wants to lodge
of the charges against the prisoner.

Georgian Was Reached Over
Long Distance Telephone at
Royston and Informed of
Federal League’s $75,000
Offer.
Ty Cobb is in Royston, Ga., his
former home, on a hunting trip and
was informed yesterday afternoon
over the long distance telephone that
he had been offered $75,000 for five
years to play with the Chicago Fed
erl League club. Ty declared that
he did not wish to make a statement,
but added that he would <lo so when
he returned to Augusta next Tuesday
or Wednesday. He did not express
much surprise at receiving such an
offer, hut he has gotten the habit of
receiving big offers and only one with
the salary of the president of the
United States would surprise him.
It is known that Cobb has strong
affection for Detroit and the Ameri
can League, yet it is believed that he
will look at the matter In a business
like manner. It is ills ambition to
make enough money during his days
of brilliancy in baseball to live com
fortably thereafter and that his ser
vice will be given to the club and or
ganization which he considers will be
for his best interests.
