FEDERALS RAID NOT
CONFINED TO 0. S.
+»■—
President Gilmore Planning to
Sign Several Cuban Players.
Has Written to Cuban Cor
respondent.
Chicago.—The raid of the Federal
League on liasclia.ll players Is sict go
ing to be confined to the United
States, for President Gilmore is plan
ning to sign several Cuban players.
President Gilmore, of the league, and
Secretary McCullough, of the Pitts
burgh Federal League club, have both
written to Pep Conte, the Cuban cor
respondent. who spends ills summers
here following the doings of the two
major leagues, and more particularly
the work of the Cuban hall players
who are now playing here.
Wants Conte's Aid.
President Gilmore tins tried to so
licit Mr. Conte’s aid In signing Cu
ban players, because lie Is in close
touch with the baseball situation on
tin* island. For the past two seasons
Mr. Conte lias kept readers informed
of the doings of Morgans and Almeida,
and also of Cabrera and Costal. All
of the Cubans have shown unusual
baseball ability since ci tiling here and
there ere several players In the Na
tional League in Cuba who are rated
as good and some of them better than
any of the Cubans who have been
playing here. Basobni) became a pop
ular game in Cuba in a remarkably
short time. The Cubans took to It
naturally, and several clever players
have been developed. Cuban teams
have compared favorably with major
league teams from here, and they were
superior to the minor league clubs
which have played there.
As Agent,
President Gilmore Informed Mr.
Conte that it lie would act as his agent
In the negotiations for players he need
not stop at any expense to land them
and he was also informed that lie
could be liberal in relation to salary
offers.
Mr. Conte has not yet decided
whether In- will act for the Federal
League. He Is a dose friend of Man
ager McGraw, and was instrumental
in landing Pitcher Palermo for the
Giants. Mr. Conte also advised Tom
my Komanaeh, the Cuban right field
er, to accept the offer of the Brook
lyn club. There Is still some ques
tlon about whether Brooklyn will get
Komanaeh, as Cincinnati is said to
have a prior claim on him.

Berlin—Such “Astonishing Improve

Cincinnati's oelphrtiti“d Mimic Hull. We
report his discourse on :i preferred ren
del ing of Genesis 22:1(1-18. He sgld:
Six thousand years ago In Eden
our Maker. 11l Justly sentencing Ills
disobedient children to death. Inti
mated that ultimately the Seed of
the woman would bruise the Serpent’s
head. This hidden promise was the
first Intimation of the Divine merey
whlrh onr gracious Creator hud pur
jsiaed In lllmself from before the
foundation of the world. Ever noble,
kind nnd gracious, our Creator re
strained Ills merey for the good of
His creatures—that they might lenro
to appreciate the exceeding sinfulness
of sin. For tile goisl of the ungels
also, that they might fully know of
Ills Justice, as well as of His Wisdom
nnd Mis Power. God Inslstml upon
dealing with Fils creatures from the
standpoint of exact Justice. Man had
sinned, anil thereby had forfeited all
clnlm upon the eternal life which God
hud given him conditionally.
Eternal torment, as we have already
seen, dhl not In any sense or degree
enter into the Divine purpose. Ills
sentence upon mnu. plainly stated,
was. "Dying, thou shalt die," not Liv
ing, thou shalt live iu torment (Gene
sis 2:17.1 God purposed to exemplify
in Ills dealings with our race a prin
ciple of Divine government to be made
operative everywhere ultimately
amongst all Ills freatures on the spirit
piano as well ns upon the earthly.
Long centuries after. God spoke to
Abrnlmm, but tlrst tested Ids faith and
loyßlty. To him the Almighty men
tioned the snme great Deliverer who
would bruise the Serpent's head. God
gave Ahrahnm the assurance that this
One would In some way be identified
with his posterity, so that He might
properly be called the Seed of Abrn
bam. God said. “In thy Seed shall all
the families of the earth ho blessed."
The Divine Program was not chang
ed. but more explicit statements were
given respecting it. Thereafter all
who were taught of God would know
to look for the Messianic blessing
through Abraham’s Seed. Tills Cove
nant was afterward confirmed with an
Oath to Abraham, and later to Isaac
and then to Jacob. This Covenant
became the basis of God's adoption tis
the entire nation of Israel—all of Ja
cob's children. They were the heirs
of the Abrahnmlc Promise—the Oath
bound Covenant. All the hopes that
have thus far preserved Israel us a
people are built upon the foundation
of this Covenant, secured to them by
the Word mid the Oath of our un
changeable God.
If It should seem strange to ns that
the Almighty Jehovah should conde
secnd to make oaths to Ills creatures
respecting the gracious gifts of Ills
bond. I remind you that God know
what Abraham did not know; namely,
that the Promise attested by that Oath
would linger for more than thirty-nine
hundred years without accomplish
merit. God foreknew that without His
Oath to tills Promise Israel would
naturally feel either that He had for
gotten It. or that something hud oc
curred to alter or amend the Divine
Program. Hence the Oath and the
fact that this Covenant is called the
Covenant of the Oath.
Promises to Jacob All Earthly.
From Genesis to Mnlncbl there Is
nothing In the Holy Scriptures that
Implies a change of nature from hu
man to spiritual for mankind In gen
eral. Nothing Intimates that man
kind will ever tie like the angels. The
prophetic promises, on the contrary,
tell of restitution to the former estate
—to human perfection and to an Eden
home restored —world wide. The Ju
bllee system of the Law of Moses
taught this same lesson On the Ilf
tletb year every slave was set at lib
erty and every property reverted to its
original owners. In tills God pictured
man's return to harmony with Him
self—man’s liberation from the bond
age of Sin and Death. Ills restoration
to the Image of tils Creator, from
which be fell through sin. and the re
turn to him of the dominion of earth
In Its glorious perfection.
I remind von of the wonderful word
pictures drawn by the Prophet Isaiah

fore Ills glorious Kingdom In the hands
of Messiah
Another description of Messiah’s
Kingdom conquering the world Is glv
eii In the 117th Psalm. There is no
doubt that this Is the prophetic picture
here given. Ills Kingdom, like David’s
and Solomon’s of old, will he Jehovah’s
Kingdom; but, unlike theirs. Ills will
he the higher, the spiritual. Heavenly.
We read. "Clouds nnd thick darkness
are round about Him; righteousness
and justice are the foundations of His
Throne." Destructive Judgments as a
lire wllP sweep away unrighteous In
Htltutlons from the world, whether
these he backed by Jewish or by Gen
tile capital or arms. Then, tho Propb
et declares, "His lightnings |IIIs reve
In tlon* ] will enlighten [and reform I
the world." Society ns now organised,
symbolically called the earth, will trem
ble. This Is already the case.
Soon the next verse will have fulfil
ment. The mountains will melt like
wax at Ills presence. From the lleuv
enly ones will come the message of
God’s righteousness; nnd all the peo
pie shall see His glory-the glory of
the Divine character In the righteous
ness of the Kingdom. All worshipers
of idols of every kind will he ashamed.
Those who are worshipers of mammon
stock* and bonds, houses and lands -
will, ns Mr. Carnegie has declared, he
ashamed of riches accumulated con
trury to the Golden Ittlle.
The next verse tells of the Jews and
allows how this blessed Message of the
Kingdom will affect them, saying.
“7Aon hen ret h It. nnd rejoleeth; glad
nro the daughters of Jerusalem he
cause of Thy decrees. O Jehovah!"
Then follows the message that Is par
tlcularly due today to all—both rich
and poor—"Ye that love Ihe J/iril, hate
ye the evil. He will preserve the
llvi-s of His pious ones."
"Abide the Day of Hie Coming."
Malnchi 3:1-5 Is another prophecy
speaking of the sumo great Messiah
Mediator of the New Covenant, King
of kings and 1/ird of lords. As the
Representative of Jehovah, His Fa
tlmr, He Is to reign until all enemies
Gin 11 be put down: until Satan shall
he t round and ultimately crushed: until
Adam and tils race, released from the
Divine sentence. Khali under the New
Covenant conditions lie lifted out of
sin. degradation and dentil up to per
fectlon and life everlasting-the tin
willing uud disobedient being destroy
ed in the Second Dentil.
The Prophet Mnlachl points out thnt
the Messenger of the New Covenant,
whom lie announces. Is the glorious
Mediator and nntltyplcnl King for
whom Israel had waited long and of
whom they delighted to think. Me
would conic to tin* Temple thus Im
plying thnt He would be not only an
antityplcal Prophet, an antityplcal
King. Imt also an antityplcal Priest—
"after the Order of MclehltSedek'*; “A
Priest upon Ills Throne.”
But after lids Joyful proclamation
that Israel's long-expected Mediator of
the New Covenant should be looked
for. they were warned thnt Ills Day
would i«e one of trial, of special testing
and proving. In order that the Lord
might find the nntlt.vplcnl Priests mid
the nntltypicnl l.evltes to serve In the
nntltyplcnl Temple He would lie like
a rentier’s fire to take away the dross
nml to leave only the pure metal fiery
trials and testings tie!rig Implied. He
would lie like “fullers' snap." In the
sense that if great washing or purging
would take place to make ready fin
the Kingdom the called and chosen
nnd faithful.

due time has come for a real move

Why Messiah’* Coming Delayed.
The Logos, the First-begotten of tho
Father. Ills glorious Agent In the
mighty work of creation, had the honor
granted Him of becoming the Messen
ger of the Covenant the greut Prophet,
Priest and King of Israel, the great
Michael of Daniel 12:1. But there
wcic tests connected with His attain
ment of this high position.
4 1« ll.i faith He must lay aside His
Heavenly glory. In obedience to the
Father's will, ami liecome a Man—not
a sinful nutn. hut "holy, hartnlea*. un
drilled, separate from sinners"—* per
feet Man.
c'Ji Thus prepared to heroine the Re
deemer. It was Ills privilege to make
full consecration of Ills earthly Inter
est. and the Father's pleasure to beget
Him of the Holy Spirit at -lordan to
the spirit nature on the highest plane
of existence For three years and a
half Ills saerlllee burned ou the altar.
It was Indeed better than the sacrifice
of hulls and goats; for It wns a cor
responding price for Adam—"an eye
for un eye. a tooth for a tooth, a roan's
life for a man's life."
(3) When Jesus hud Ihun sncrlflcUtty
pnrted with Ills earthly life He experi
enced a resurrection change from hu
man nature to spiritual, like what He
was originally, only higher and more
glorious. Thus IL- was at once both a
sacrifice nnd the spirit begotten Priest
who offered that sacrifice. When He
arose from the dead. Ills personal sac
rifice had ended, nnd Ills personal per
fection as a spirit being was completed.
The question then arises. Why did
He not at once begin Ills great work
ns Prophet. Priest. King and New
Covenant Mediator for Israel and.
through Israel, for the world? The
Scriptures answer that It was because
there was to be more than onp sacri
fice in the Divine Plan on the antl
typlcal Day of Atonement. Through
out tills Gospel Age this risen, glori
fied High Priest. Mediator. Prophet
and King has been waiting to inau
gurate His glorious Kingdom of Bless
ing walling while a little handful of
saints should he selected from the
world, tested and found worthy, and
then glorified with Himself—a Little
Flock, both Jews and Gentllee.
When this Bride class shall have
completed her sacrifice In nnd under
the merit of the great Priest, then ev
ery arrangement for Israel’s blessing
as Abraham’s seed, and of all na
tions through Israel, will forthwith
commence. Thus seen, the revela
tion of the great Messenger of tho
New Covenant is very Important, not
only to the Jew. hut also to the world
of mankind, who must receive their
blessings under Israel by compliance
with the same New haw Covenant
Moreover, the elect handful of saints
drawn, called nnd gathered during the
parenthesis period of the Gospel Age
are also deeply Interested in God’s
glorious Kingdom; for the Divine
promise Is that they shall then be
changed to be like their Master and to
aliare Ills glory.
The Earthly Phase of the Kingdom.
Studying the Bible from this stand
point, 1 ain sure that with myself you
will see that the Divine predictions of
Messiah's Kingdom indicate that It
will have n glory and a power super
human. In the light of which even
Solomon's glory, riches and honor will
fade. Indeed, was not Solomon mere
ly n foreshadow of the great King of
Glory, the Heavenly One?
When we remember tbftt Messiah's
Kingdom is not only to bless those
living Ht the time or its establishment,
but gradually to awaken the dead and
give all of Adam's race a full oppor
tunity to nttuln life everlasting, then
It will be seen thnt the Kingdom must
be u spiritual one. Then, too, Mes
siah’s Kingdom of Light Is represent
ed as superseding Sntan’e kingdom of
darkness—both spiritual.
In full accord with this thought ts
the prophecy. "Behold, a King shall
reign in righteousness, and princes
Himll execute judgment.” (lsslahß2:l.)
Messiah will he the great King—the
Church, Ills Bride, being asaoctated
with Him. The Princes who will ex
ecute Judgment will be the Ancient
Worthies of Israel— Abraham, Isaac,
Jacob and all the holy Prophets—car
rying out the decrees mid regulations
of the Heavenly Messiah. This Is the
meaning of the Lord's promise to Is
rael, "l will restore thy Judges as at
the first, and thy counselors as at the
beginning."—laaloh 1:2(1.
In conclusion. I ask you to note the
critical translation of my text which
I have given. According to the He
brew, the nations ure to bless them
selves in the Seed of Abrnbam. In
other words, after the establishment
of Messiah's Kingdom, when Israel
shall have been reorganised and
brought Into favor with God under the
New Covenant (Jeremiah 31:31-34i. and
when the Primes of nil the enrtb shall
be Isrnelitlsh—Abrnhnm. Isaac. Jacob
nml all the Prophets—then the door of
opportunity, lirst opened to the Jew,
will stand open to nil notions, that
they may be adopted under the gra
cious terms of the New Covenant
Then, with Israel ns servants of God.
they may become children of Abra
ham This is the significance of the
words of our text. The nations shall
bicss themselves In Abraham's Seed—
by becoming through fnltli and conae
