C.—By continuing all bills on its calendar, the state senate last night killed a number of bills of Btate-wide importance, among them the two-cent passenger fare bill, the Fortner bill prohibiting white people from teaching in negro schols, the child labor bill and the local option compulsory education bill and the bill to abate and enjoin prostitution. The wholesale slaughter was part oT the annual process of clearing drafts pre paratory to adjournment The rate bill had been amended to exempt short independent lines of 125 miles or less; and to exempt branch lines of 125 n}iles or less own ed by main lines of railways. C. —The general appro priation bill for 1914, reported by con ferees of the house and senate, carries a total of $2,213,657.54 and provides for a tax levy of six mills. Tuesday there was a difference between the conferees of $214,000 but an agreement was reached and senate amendments cutting the appropriations prevailed In the main. Asked To Make Apology For Slapping Solon's Face Columbia, 8. C. —After invcgtlgat- Ing the personal encounter of Tues day night between A. D. Ollphant, a reporter for a local newspaper, and Representative Rogers of Spartan burg, the majority of the house com mittee on privilege* and elections submitted a report requesting Mr. 011- phant to apologize to the house. The minority of the committee suggestel that the speaker reprimand Mr. Oll phant. At the Investigation Mr. 011- phant testified that Mr. Rogers pro voked the difficulty by calling him a liar. Mr. Rogers denied his Intention to reflect on Mr. Oliphant's veracity. After debate last night the house adopted the majorftty report of the committee. Mr. Oliihant then ap peared before the bar of the house and apologized to the house. ORDER MISTRIAL IN THE MELTON MURDER CASE Atlanta, Ga, —An order of mistrial was entered here Wednesday In the case of J. R.
