The Macon Telegraph ia receiv.
mg lots of praise for its Mercer
edition-praise that it richly merits.
It is funny to witness the efforts
some of our aspiring weeklies are
making to get into a controversy
with a “ real big daily.” It would
be more amusing if they didn’t get
smothered so quick.
Folks down at Gardi must be
hard pushed for land. The Gardi
poet says they are plowing in the
village. Seems to us there ought
to be land enough around Gardi
without plowing up the town itself.
Wont somebody suggest a good
man for our next governor? There
•re only about twenty posing before
the people as candidates as yet, and
ws need more. It looks as if every
nboofly paper in the state wants
the honor of naming our next ex
ecutive.
The birth-day edition of the

ten years of progressive journalism.
The edition was specially designed

Front Screven.
Well, the Screven Craeker is still
in the ring but somewhat disfigured.
The recent showers, accompanied
by warmer weather, have improved
the growing crops wonderfully.
Eree and unlimited fishing at u
ratio almost equal to sixteen to one
is the order of the day; the result
of which may prove sixteen bushels
of corn to buy, where there will be
one for sale.
The writer hopes the showers
will continue, until our corn is
made, in proportion to our needs—
even if it fills up the fish lakes and
heals over the Orter slides, or mul¬
tiplies the worms for the fishes.
The cotton looks better, in pro¬
portion, than does the corn.
Mr. A. C. Kickiighter and Mr.
Willard Googe who have charge of
Capt. C. C. Grace’s farm, have a
beautiful prospect for cotton.
By the way, we have a Telephone
line with an office here ip the store
of the J. H. Walker Co., and we can
talk to the people in Vaidoeta,
Waycross, Biackshear, Jesup.
Brunswick, and with all the town
and village people along the line
between the above mentioned
points, and for only twenty-five
cents. As the world grows older it
appears the skill of man becomes
more wonderful. Just the other
day we secured a marriage license
by a single message over the Phone,
thereby making two young s.mls
happy. I only mention this for the
benefit of our young people who aie
subject to the diseuse. You can be
relieved for two dollars, a small in¬
vestment, the remainder of which
your future needs will dictate, and
your necessities suggest.
By the way, we came very near
having un artesian well at Dales
Mill. We regret that it was a fail
ure.
We see from the papers that it
cost a mnn ten dollars and seventy
five cents to kiss an Atlanta girl in
that city. Now, boys, he careful
and don’t kiss the wrong girl, for
wo are satisfied that while there is
not so many kisses in this section,
they are just as sweet. What say
you?

that the school will still increase,
We hope our Honorable Board of

abundant good fruit, which should

A ltouiantie Marriage*
From Atlanta Journal—
About three weeks ago MissGus
sie May Little, a charming young
lady graduate from Jeaup. stopped
in Atlanta on her way home from
school to visit her uncle, D-. Can¬
non.
A reception was given in her
honor and Mr. Obis Broyles was
one of the invited guests. The
young lady and gentleman imme¬
diately took a great interest in one
another, and in time it was evi¬
dent that they were both desper¬
ately in love. Dr. Cannon was in¬
formed and he dutfuliy telegraph¬
ed Mrs. Little to come to Atlanta
at once. When she arrived the
plans of the young people were laid
before her and she objected. Her
son came on, and when he heard of
the plans he also objected How¬
ever the splendid reports he heard
on every side regarding the char¬
acter and ability of Mr. Broyles
and the good words every one had
for him won the day, and both the
young lady’s mother and brother
sanctioned the match.
They were married yesterday at
noon by Rev. J. T. Dares, and are
at home at Dr. Johnson’s on Geor¬
gia avenue.
Mrs. Little is the guest of her
daughter, and the whoje community
is congratulating the two brothers.
