Editor News:
Jt is with regret that I
the following, but it seems to
necessary.
About four years ago I was
of the Grand Jurors at the
Court in Wayne county, and
one of the committee to
the public buildings. We, tfie com¬
mittee,-saw deficiencies in the
that ought to be repaired and rec¬
ommended that same be done
once. To my certain
the Grand Jury of this county
recommended the same repairs al¬
most every court since, but noth¬
ing has been done and the
tion of the jail has been
growing worse until the roof is
in such bad repair that when
heavy rain falls, one leak will some¬
times fill a bucket hoiding ten
quarts. There is about half a doz¬
en of these leaks right in the mid¬
dle of the house where the jailer
compelled to live, besides several
others that run down the sides of
the building. In some parts of
house the window eurtains had
be taken down on acc >unt of the
wafer running through in a
To ail this my family is exposed.
In addition to all this, the old,
impure water that lodges in tbe
brick and cement and in the
flooring, has stood so long until it
raises a stench; I even had to re¬
move the carpet from the floor on
this account.
Still the Honorable Board
County Commissioners
to save the money that the
of Wayne county paid into
treasury, by way of tax, to have
this work done. I admit that we,
the officers, are duty bound to
cititizen of this county to save all
we can by economising, but if
are to poor to pay for repairing
jail so that the occupants can
dry, then I think the
Bourd of County
had better revoke the contract
the county printing, which they
paying twenty dollars a
for, and which they can get
five dollars a quarter, a saving
the county of sixty dollars a
However, it seems that their
ical prejudices have mounted

If they continue to represent
county in this style, it will not
long before they, like unto

their ears.
I have lived in the jail ever
I came to Jesup, over two

Typhoid fever in my family

dition of the jail caused the
of my little Jessie, but I believe
had a gieat deal to do with it
the jail cannot be healthy in
delapidated condition.
They may fix it or not, as
please, but I will not live in it
longer, and I don’t think

Rumors have been rife as to his
being seen at different places, but
when traeed to their foundation
proved to be baseless.
Davis was originally from Wiison
county, near the line of Wayne
county, North Carolina, and came
to Wayne count}’, Georgia,
twelve years ugo.
The following is the description
given of Davis by those who have
seen him:

dark complexion, black hair, small
keen black eyes and long noge.
He was commonly dressed and wore
