JESUP, Ga. Jan. 11. 1901.
All great ideas and inventions
have been persistently fought,
It has beep asserted that the pro¬
gress of any country or any sec¬
tion of any country cau be, to a
great degree, measured by the ac¬
tivity of it? inventors. Through
all eges there has been opposition
made to the introduction of in
ventions and improvements.
As an example of the benefits
to be derived from such a school
as we hope to build: The Cor¬
$on /nstituto, of B-rnesville, Ga„
has at least 800 boarding pupils,
ewch of ivbqtr) spend at least
per month hoard. This amounts
to something f. like $3000 tier month
which , . , is put 1 m circulation . in that
city Aside , irom this , amount, ,
there 18 a very larg« sum spent .
each , month directly , with ,. the , mer
.hunts. Sin™ .ho building of
Gordon Institute, Knrnosvilie lias
acquired several mills and facto¬
ries until to-day she is one of the
most progressive towns in the
State. What is the matter with
Jesup that she cannot do likewise?
j^urely our citizens are not lacking
in energy and pluck! By all
means vote for the bonds and let’s
see Jesup get pn a bqora.
READ THIS.
No paper can be published with
out home patronage, and every
citizen should be Interested in
keeping up a home paper. If
railroad or factory is wanted, the
newspapers are expected to work
for it. If a puolic meeting is wai¬
ted for any purpose, the newspa¬
per is called upon for a fr^-e no¬
tice. If any of the societies have
a supppr or a reception of any
kind, theyiewspaper is expected to
give the necessary notice. The
newspaper must puff the schools
and everybody else to advance the
interests of the business men of
t|iq place, and then give them a
handsome notice when they pass
away. No matter what is on tap
the paper is asked to contri¬
bute a world of freo work. And
yet soma of them do nothing to
keep up a homo newspaper, Is it
feifislinois or thoughtlessness?
y^hoknows? We only know that
it is so, and that we ever and
anon feel the sting of it,- Duiton
Argus.
What do you think of this for
a hitter? We say amen to it, and
wish everybody to read it care
fully and think whether or not
you have done your full sjiar© to
keep up a paper for your section
