COUNTY COURT CONVENED.
The March term of the county
Court convened Monday, Judge S.
R. Harris presiding, although
docket was quite heavy the busi¬
ness of the court was dispatched
with easand rapidity. This
Judge Harris’ first court since his
Appointment, and from tbe
|n which he conducts himself, on
tbe bench, m discharging his of¬
ficial duties, and from what
personally know of him, the coun¬
ty can rest assured that they have
a judge who will faithfully and
fearlessly discharge his duty, and
do it with as little expense to the
County as possible.
Tbe first case on docket was
that of the state vs. B. Elijah
Jacobs’ Jr, who was indicted by
the last grand jury for wife beat*,
ing, in thiscaseibe jury returned
ft verdict of guilty, and he whs
sentenced to nine months in the
chain gang, to be discharged on
tne payment of $25.00 and costs,
County solicitor and Tindall &
Morris represented the state and
</ae. R. Thomas the accused;
The next ease was ihafc of the
State vs. B, E. Jacobs, Sr, assault
and Battery, county solicitor and
Tindall & itforris represented the
stata and Jas. R. Thomas the de¬
fendant, on motion of states coun¬
cil the case was uontinued on no*
count of absence of wltnessess,
In the case of the state vs Joe
Griner, carrying pistol concealed,
his attorney entered a plea of
guilty, and prisioner was senten¬
ced to six months in the chain
gang or pay a flue of $20.00 and
costs, Tonunty solicitor and
Tindall & Morris representing the
•cate and Jas. R. Thomas the de¬
fendant
One of the closest questions and
the hardest fought cases of the
term, was that of the state vs Ti¬
ny Johnson. Johnson was arres¬
ted on the 6th, of March and giv¬
en a preliminary trial before the
justice of the peace, on a warant
charging assault with intent to
murder, and was acqitted, after
which t^e prosecutor swore out
another warrant before the county
judge and johnson was again ar*
rained, to answer for an assault
on the prosecutor, to which his at¬
torneys, Tindall and Morris, en¬
tered a plea in bap to the second
arraignment, to which the state
filed a demurrer, after exhaulting
all the law on the subject and
hearing tbe various arguments,
the judge decided that the plea
filed by the defense should be sus¬
tained, and the defendant dis
charged. and the demurrer filed
by states’ council, D. M. Clark &
Jas. R. Thomas, be over ruled.
* On motion of defen Junta coun¬
sel, the case of J. J. Little vs.
Manning was continued.
Jas. R. Th°m»8 representing
plaintiff and Q, F. Littlefield tbe
defendant.
