The members of the Finny

pleasant days outing on the banks
of the Alt&maha near Linders
Bluff one day last week. Three
membera of the party attended
the fish frye. Fivo ehad were
dispatched. A motion was made,
and carried that all present were
to disgorge with a Altamaha stew

"All records,’'says the, Cincin
natic Enquirer, ‘‘will be broken
by the south in the matter of ex¬
hibiting her resources at coming
Ohio Valley exposition uext fall.’'
The exposition is designed to
commemorate the completion
and opening of the Fernbank dam
by the United States government
just below the city, which will
create practically au inland lake
2o miles iu length, thus furnish¬
ing (Jinciunati a most magnificent
harbor along the entiro city front.
In the division of work among
the directors, Mr. Powell selected
the chairmanship of the committee
of “The South and its Resources”
and selected as his commissioners
and co-workers the immigration
and industrial representatives
of more than forty of the princi¬
pal trunk lino railroads of the
southeast. Georgia's interest arc
represented directly on the com¬
mittee by Col. Samuel C. Dunlap,
commissioner Georgia bureau of
industries and immigration: Ma¬
jor W. L. Glessner, of the Geor¬
gia and Flordia railroad; Mr. W*
II. Leahy, of the Alanta, Birm¬
ingham & Atlantic railroad and
Mr. J. A. Streyer, of tha Macon,
Dublin, & Savannah railroad.
These gentlemen will be aided
and assisted by Messrs Park, of
the Louisville & Nashville Rich
arps of the Southern, Craig, of
the Coast Line, and Bollah, of the
Nashville Chattanooga & St.
L°uis railway, all of whoso lines
ramify the state and who have
a natural interest in promoting
its development.
The railroads of the country
are confronted, savs the Albany
Herald, by the problem of the in¬
creased cost of living just like the
rest of us. The trainmen, nnding
the cost of living higher nro de¬
manding an increase in wages,
and railroad supplies are higher
than they have been. The ten¬
dency has been to reduce railroad
passenger and freight rates all
over tho country during tho re¬
years. But when it can be shown
that it is now costing the railroad
more to carry freight and passen¬
gers than it did five years ago
as for that matter shall they not
. aubw%l to raise their rates in
•r to meet increased expenses?
