the race for Governor at the com¬

former Governor has declined,
but the petitions do not ( ease .
nor do the delegations diminish.
It seems that the friends of the
former Governor are almost u

have him in the race. For four
years the News has been and con¬

An Opponent For Judge
Of The Brunswick Circuit
We learn from an authoritave
source that Judge Boiling Whit¬
field of Brunswick i.® being urged
to enter the race for Judge of
the Superior Court in opposition
to Judge C. fl. Conyers. Than
Bolling Whitfield Ihere is no high
-er type of sterling manhood, nor
more finished jurist in this section
of Georgia. We say all this with¬
out disparagement of the excel
lent qualities of Judge!!. B. Con¬
yers. Judge Whitfield was an as¬
pirant for appointment before
Governor Brown and it is said
that his endorsement was one
of the strogest ever presented to
the Governor. It goes without say
-ing that .fudge Whitfield with
his host of admirers in the Coun¬
ties of the Brunswick Circuit
would make the race an extre¬
mely interesting one.
Death of Green Ritch
On last Friday night one of the
most highly respected and honor¬
ed citizens of Wayne county pas¬
sed away at his home near Screv¬
en when the spirit of Green B.
Ritch winged its flight to the Im¬
mortal One. As a man and friend
Green Ritch stood without a peer
in the County of Wayne. Many
times had ho boon honored by his
fellow citizens and wl o 1 death
came, though not entirely unex¬
pected, almost the entire county
wasenshrodUed in gloom. lie had
about reached the time alloted to
man and was buried in the family
burying ground near ltitch. We
will next week publish the rcsolu
lions of the Masons upon bis death
as he was buried with masonic
honors having stood high in-this
order. In passing the News drops
a silent tear upon the gravo of
this great and good citizen.
